Connie in Key West overnight (2 Threads Merged)

When we were on the Constellation last December and ended up STUCK in Key West, they did not allow anyone back off the ship beyond the scheduled departure time. We were at the Navy pier and were told that security was not in place to handle people coming/going for us at night. On the bright side they DID have the casino open that evening - YES, while docked in Key West!

Our next port of call was to be Cozumel, but we ended up going to Nassau...

Celebrity made the WRONG CALL, Carnival (oddly enough) played it safe and made it to Cozumel!!

LINK to my post from that ill fated trip.

We were with Tom on that December Connie cruise last year when it got stuck due to high winds. If the weather had been better, staying overnight at the pier would have been fine but it wasn't exactly pool lounging weather. People were really mad to have to go to Nassau.

Hope you all get underway this morning!

The M class uses LM2500 aeroderivative gas turbines made by General Electric. If they're lucky, it's something in the engine itself since the core engine can be changed out in about 12 hours. Several years ago on a tour of the Connie I was told they kept a spare engine onboard for emergency changeouts. Hopefully they still do.

Every few years the engine needs to be swapped out and sent off for inspection/rebuilding.

We use similiar gas turbines at work and there are a LOT of auxiliary systems (lube oil, etc, etc) that can also cause problems. Those can sometimes be harder to troubleshoot and they may not have parts on hand.

Yes they do. Was on a tour of the Summit two years ago and was told that there is a spare turbine on all their ships. The Summit stored the extra right near the tender boarding area. People walked past it many days and never noticed it. They aren't as big as a larger refrigerator.

I'm hoping for the best. We were part of the cancelled cruises on Millie and are scheduled for early Feb on Connie. 2 cruises in a row cancelled would not be fun. I may be considered a jinx.

Oh no, I feel you pain. First we were booked on Millie with you and now, we will be on Connie February 17....:eek:

No, I think I'm the jinx! We also have had two Millie cruises cancelled on us and we are currently on the Connie. I watched them uncrate replacement part on at 3 am this morning and I know they are working hard to fix the problem. All is good here but I think Cozumel will not happen this cruise.

I was a little surprised to see the Connie at the dock this morning. I know the port schedule and it struck me as odd she was here. Now I know why. Sorry to hear about this. I hope some of you on board got to enjoy some of our nightlife, at least. :o

No word yet. I wish they would let us disembark so we could see some more of Key West.

That's a Blue Chip casino sailing (as is the 4 night cruise on 12/19). I'll bet the casino has been rather busy! Did they have it open last night?

Closed last night and no casino staff to be seen. Probably to avoid people like me asking when will it open to which they would reply they have no idea. Am blue chip member and I think I am going to need therapy if it doesn't open soon. :D Interesting no announcement as of 10:27 since cruise director last night said our goal is to always keep us informed. Kind of a weird atmosphere just people wandering around the ship not bad just different feel.

Yowza! I'd be bummed, but as with all cruises they do have the option to modify itineraries.

Will they allow you off until closer to 10pm so you can at least enjoy Key West some more?

Maybe tonight you can go to Mallory Square and see the shows!

Hi all, sharing our latest update:

Yesterday, December 15, Celebrity Constellation became aware of a technical issue with one of its gas turbine engines. Celebrity Cruises made arrangements to replace the necessary component. Regrettably, the installation work has required more time than originally anticipated.

Because of this delay, and the time and speed needed, Celebrity Constellation will be unable to make its scheduled port call to Cozumel, Mexico on Tuesday, December 17. Instead, it will call into Nassau, Bahamas on Wednesday, December 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The ship will depart Key West at 10:00 p.m. this evening.

Tendering into KW today. Do not leave until 10 pm.

What do you mean by tendering? You're still at the dock. Are you going out to anchor?

I can answer that one. It won't happen while you are tied to the dock or still in Florida state waters.

It was open last year on the Constellation when we were stuck in KW overnight!

They said they received some type of "special permission" or something. I think it was probably more along the lines of "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission"! ;)

We moved last night to what is being referred to as the Navy Pier. Thus the need to tender folks into KW.Disney ship came in this morning to tie up at the regular pier.

Interesting!

Whenever we've been at the Navy pier they have a trolley taking people from the ship, through the Navy base, and into town (and back). Perhaps, since this was not a planned stop, they lack the ability to do that - as was the case during our KW overnight last year.

Yikes! They must've pulled over because Florida and Key West don't mess around when it comes to gambling.

You're referring to the Trolly shuttles, right? Or are they actually using tender boats to take you to the other dock?
