m134 Posted December 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2013 For our upcoming cruise, we booked a VF GTY and got assigned one of the two wheelchair-accessible VA cabins at the very front of deck 6. I called HAL and told them that we do not need an HC cabin, but they said this is the only cabin they have available for us. Looking at the deck plans, should we rejoice that we are getting a cabin almost twice as large as a standard verandah room for the very low price we paid for our VF GTY? Are there some catches we are not aware of? We do not mind being at the very front of the ship and having both a side balcony and an additional forward-facing window is awesome, IMO. Similar located and similar-sized cabins just below us are SY suites. What am I missing? Merry Christmas to all!

DH and I were assigned a HC category cabin once, and truly enjoyed the extra space - even the extra large shower. Just watch out for the ramp leading in and out of the balcony. It can be a tripping hazard. Enjoy your cruise!
Rare Scrapnana Posted December 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2013 I would be excited to get this extra large cabin. Enjoy!

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 26, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Sounds like a great upgrade. What ship? When do you sail?
shrimp56 Posted December 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2013 We booked a VH on Zuiderdam and were upgraded to a VA. Enjoy the extra space!
zookiebird Posted December 26, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Sounds like a teriffic upgrade. Only downside I can think of is being that far forward the balcony might be a bit windy. But that forward looking window would be great, almost like your own Crows Nest sitting area.

The forward facing window sounds interesting too during the day.
sherilyn70 Posted December 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 26, 2013 My only thought is that you're potentially losing a tub. Not sure what ship your on so I can't confirm that.
Typhoon1 Posted December 27, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 27, 2013 Don't argue with HAL, If they needed that cabin, they wouldn't have assigned it to you. Take the VA and enjoy your cruise.
