Boatingmom Posted January 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2014 I sailed out of PR twice in the past. My upcoming cruise lists the port as Cupey. PR. IS THIS DIFFRENT FROM THE PAN AM PIER?? If so, where is it? Anything interesting close by??
Miss Vickie Posted January 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2014 I don't know where or what Cupey is, but Jewel of the Seas ports at the Pan Am pier.
Boatingmom Posted January 5, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks! I didn't want to miss the ship having a cab driving around to find Cupey? Some fancy name changing maybe:eek:
Aviator of the Seas Posted January 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2014 Cupey? Is that iOs Maps or something? Cupey is about 6 miles inland from the cruise ship piers. Almost in the countryside.
Aviator of the Seas Posted January 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2014 The Jewel of the Seas sails from the Pan American Pier, just south of Old San Juan.
Boatingmom Posted January 6, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted January 6, 2014 don't know but San Juan PR seems to be listed as Cupey PR when I search southern/eastern itineraries.
Aviator of the Seas Posted January 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2014 don't know but San Juan PR seems to be listed as Cupey PR when I search southern/eastern itineraries. This must be the product of some joker IT guy inputting something funny into the website. Failing that, it must be the product of some automated mapping/location thing. If anybody's wondering what the heck Cupey is, allow me to expand. San Juan is the Capital City and the seat of government of Puerto Rico. It is divided into some major subdivisions, namely, Old San Juan (the historic district), Santurce (the modern built up area just east of Old San Juan), Hato Rey (midtown or the financial district aka The Golden Mile) and Rio Piedras. Up until the 1960s, Rio Piedras was a municipality all to its own until it got merged with San Juan. Rio Piedras itself had some subdivisions, one of which was Hato Rey (Spanish for The King's Ranch), and then El Casco or Downtown Rio Piedras, where the University of Puerto Rico's main campus sits. The suburbs of the then municipality of Rio Piedras where and are still known as Cupey, with the low lying areas designated as Cupey Bajo (low) and the hills known as Cupey Alto (high). The most current claim to fame of that area known as Cupey is that it is the birthplace and home of three-time world boxing champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad. Now, Tito Trinidad is insanely famous on the whole of Puerto Rico, so I wouldn't put it past some techie fan of him of pushing his homestead in the interwebs as THE capital of Puerto Rico - Cupey - above Rio Piedras and the whole of San Juan. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Boatingmom Posted January 6, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Thanks for the info. I thought maybe I had misread. I even went back and googled cruises from Cupey and all the Royal Carribbean Cruises came up on the well known travel site Ex---ia. Go figure.
RCIlove Posted January 15, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Is the Pan Am pier the one right across from the Sheraton in Old San Juan or is it the one a little further away that the Adventure is at?
Aviator of the Seas Posted January 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 15, 2014 The PanAm pier is where the Adventure, the Jewel and the Summit sail from.
RCIlove Posted January 15, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Ok! Thank you! I was a little confused since the reservation said Cupey. But since it's the same on as the Adventure, I know where I'm going now.
