Hi there. We will be flying into Ft. Lauderdale the night before our cruise departs in Miami. Do you recommend we get transportation to a hotel in Miami that night or stay in Ft. Lauderdale and get transportation the next day? What are some hotel and transportation recommendations? Thanks

Following this thread. We are also flying into FLL in the evening and cruising out of Miami. I'm thinking of booking at a hotel close to the airport since we will have our 6 month old and will want to get her to bed after a long day o f travel but I'm interested in hearing others opinions.

We are doing the same thing and decided to stay in Ft Lauderdale. Our flight gets in about 6 pm so we want to have time to get dinner and go to the store for wine. So to save on transportation expenses we booked a hotel with a free airport shuttle and will get a shuttle from the hotel to Port of Miami in the morning.

We're flying into FLL the day before, taking the tri rail from FLL to MIA, where we are staying at an airport area hotel that night. The next day we are taking a shuttle from the hotel to the POM cruiseport. The tri-rail is about $3.75 per person, and stops at both airports.

For the return home, I just booked MJS shuttle, $13 per person to take us from POM to FLL.

We did this on January 3rd, 2014.

We got Jiffy Jeff ( he has a web site) shuttle from FLL to our hotel in Miami airport area. He got us from airport at 8 pm ( our flight was delayed and he kept track of us). He dropped us off at comfort inn and suites in Miami just before 9 pm. Very friendly and efficient. We booked him online on the 31 of December and confirmed by phone on the 2nd. Cost was 15 per person. Clean, nice van ( Mercedes). There were 7 of us.

Your choice! Many choose to stay near FLL or in the downtown/17th street area of Fort Lauderdale: check www.sunny.org for tourist and hotel info.

If you want to stay near POM you can shuttle or cab (for about $85) to Miami (about a 45 minute drive); downtown hotels near POM often suggested include the Hampton Inn (Mary Brickell village), Hyatt, Marriott, Doubletree, Intercontinental, & Holiday Inn. A cab to POM the next morning will cost you about $12+tip.

Also, would someone be able to estimate the cost of taking a taxi from Miami airport to the Esplendor Hotel Breakwater South Beach (Ocean Drive and 10th Street). Also approximate cost from the hotel to Port of Miami. Also does anyone know if this is a good choice for hotel. Booked already but just wondering.

And another question, does anyone from Miami know the cost of the municipal bus (while we are in Miami for a few days) - cost for senior and also cost for adult. Anything like a card for multiple use during our stay? Maybe I should start a new thread for this.

Thanks.

I think you would find the hotel prices in FLL in an area like Dania Beach (near airport) much cheaper than in Miami. Then use one of the shared shuttle services mentioned above to get to POM.

We did this and used MJS shuttle and were very happy with the service. Were at the port just as boarding started. They call you every step of the way so they know where you are and where they are. Vans are new and very nice/comfortable.

Don't think I'll stay in Miami just for a pre-cruise overnight ever again.
