we are leaving from Long Beach port. Is is closer to fly out of Orange county or LAX

Thanks

In distance, half dozen of one, 6 of the other....however...

SNA (Org Co.) is much smalller and easier to get in and out of then LAX.

The actaul drive is nicer from SNA to Long Beach.

Long Beach has a airport

OC would be a littler loser and easier, less crowded. But more than likely LAX will be cheaper and may offer non stop flights.

I would agree, Orange County and LAX about the same with the drive from Orange County much better and more likelyto be "trouble free". There is also an airport in Long Beach; smaller, of course, but a nice airport. I've flown in an out of there many times. It probably doesn't have the flight selections, time and carrier, that LAX has, however.

We cruise out of Long Beach all the time. We have done LAX and that is ok but LGB (the Long Beach airport) is convenient and the taxi or shuttle is about half the cost of one to LAX. We last went in November and the new airport was open--not all complete but very nice.

I'm guessing OP will want flights from/to the Seattle area.

AS has nonstops to all 5 airports in the LA metro area. Between LAX, LGB, and SNA there isn't one with consistently better fares. Also you can fly into one airport and out of another and sometimes that saves ground transportation issues.

JetBlue has SEA flights but doesn't service SNA.

DL, US, and Allegiant would require a connecting flight for LGB or SNA to the Seattle area.

AA, UA, and SWA fly to SNA but not to LGB......all the airlines I've mentioned fly to LAX but not all have nonstops to SEA. Also check Virgin America out of LAX.

Hope this helps!

LAX is closer than SNA.

SNA to the Carnival Cruise Terminal in Long Beach is 31.1 miles per Google Maps.

LAX to the Carnival Cruise Port is 22.4 miles.

Both are via freeway, neither is a great drive if there is traffic...and there is often traffic in Greater Los Angeles on BOTH routes.

LGB is 11.3 miles.

For reference, BUR (Bob Hope Airport-Burbank) is 38.7 miles and ONT (Ontario Airport) is 54.4 miles away...

Long Beach is a great little airport--but there are very few airlines serving with very few direct flights to very few destinations...

A bit more to SNA (John Wayne-Orange County)...

But, for the best selection, schedules and rates, that usually means LAX...

But, don't fear LAX. It IS the sixth busiest airport in the world--but it is more difficult to manage for those having to make connections there as the internal transportation is poor. When arriving or departing only, it is not as bad as some would have you think. A taxi or shuttle will drop you off and pick you up right outside whichever terminal you are using. The difficulty some have is with 1) Check-in, 2) Security and 3) Baggage Claim. Some claim they face long lines.

We may just be overly lucky, but we've never experienced any long waits. First, we always check in online nowadays...We've found the waits at check-in to drop off luggage is no longer than we've experienced at other airports. Same with security...we're usually from curb to gate within about 15-20 minutes total. We just flew via LAX to Fort Lauderdale for our cruise this past week. We had the longest wait at check-in we've ever experienced (Jet Blue)--and it was only because of the storms in the Northeast and all of the canceled flights. I am sure that bogged down most airports. It did take about a half an hour for the luggage to make it to the carousel on our return flight--but, again, that happens everywhere.

Once you land at LAX, it is easy to find all sorts of ground transportation. Higher volume of flights, greater availability of ground transportation.

I recommend using SNA if you are doing a pre-cruise at Disney...or Newport Beach or points south...Use Burbank if you are doing a pre-cruise in Universal/Hollywood and other points north of LA. Use LGB IF you can get a reasonably priced and convenient direct flight there. Use Ontario only if you have family in the Inland Empire you want to visit...Or use an alternate airport if you get a tremendous deal to fly there--keeping in consideration your additional transportation costs and the value of your time.

If you plan on using cruise line transfers/hotels, that generally requires you to use LAX.

But, again, don't fear LAX...

No one has brought this up, but if you fly Jet Blue into LGB, not only is it very convenient, but Jet Blue allows you one checked bag. I know there are lots of folks out there who get a freebie through a frequent flyer program or credit card, but for the average person that extra $25 bucks makes a difference.

Happy sailing!

If you have the option ..go with Long Beach Airport. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Sooooo close to the cruise port and beautiful. (was just renovated)

We're flying into Long Beach airport on JetBlue from Vegas and our total fare is $88 total per person, which was cheaper than Southwest into LAX. Plus closer to Long Beach, etc.
