Boarding time ????????????

Somehow I don't think Azamara's website is correct for our first cruise. We sail out of Monaco at 10:00 P.M. Website says boarding between 4:30 and 5:00 P.M. Somehow that doesn't sound right to me. It seems to me we boarded much earlier the last time we sailed out of Monaco and we had a night sailing...possibly midnight but not sure if it was a little earlier. Foggy memory due to lack of sleep and the time change from the U.S. to Europe. :o I know we did not have a sail away because of the hour we actually sailed.

I can't imagine it being this late because of muster drill, etc.

I think I've grown skeptical of what I read on their website lately...needless to say, the website needs some major work.

Hi Midwestchick,

I think you are right, that your boarding time may be earlier. I've seen this previously, with other late departures. I suggest checking with your TA or LeClub Voyage. I wish I could obtain a direct answer for you, but my options are extremely limited at this time.

Please let us know the outcome. Enjoy your cruise !

Thank you, Andy. It has been one extremely frustrating day, to say the least ....problems with Choice Air and getting flights booked and then they were wrong ...many hours on the Internet today and the phone.

I will check with LeClub tomorrow....well, actually today now. My thoughts are we can board around noon. Soon the planning should be behind me.

As much as I LOVE cruising on Azamara, there are some problems they need to resolve on their website and soon.

Hi Midwestchick,

I'm sorry to hear of your frustration. I truly enjoy the planning part. When we cruise, we usually cruise as a family, and I'm doing all the planning for anywhere from 4-10 family members simultaneously, so it can be quite the challenge ! You never want the cruiseline to add to complications... but it happens.

I'm not very happy with Azamara's website in it's current state, but I believe a website update is coming in April. I seem to recall reading about the online booking engine being reinstated in the next update. IF that happens, it will be a very welcome return. Let's hope it's only a part of bigger and better plans for the website. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

When we boarded in Monaco before a late departure we were picked up from our hotel in Nice at 10.45 and were on the ship a little more than an hour later.

By 12.30 we were having a lovely buffet lunch in the sunshine.

As seems to be the norm these days it appears that the website is wrong.

Let's hope so...too many people are unhappy with the website.

  • 2 weeks later...

If the website is wrong and we can board around noon is it possible to get off the ship again? We are on a similar cruise later in the year, will need to check out of our hotel by noon so would like to settle on board but possibly see more of the sights before sailing at 11pm. I wasn't sure if this was possible on departure day.

My husband and I were in a similar situation about 3 years on the Quest. We had been staying in Istanbul until day of the cruise. I believe we boarded the ship around noon, checked into our room, had a little lunch and then went back out. Not sure what time we sailed later in the day but once you receive your ship identification it shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps.

Even with the late departure, some of the ports require that once you check in and board the ship - you have to stay on the ship. This happened to us last year in Beijing. Also - even with the late deoartures, they typically have the life boat drill close to 5:00 pm.

Not sure what we'll have to do on the B2B cruise. I'm hoping we can just stay on the ship. I'd rather not have to leave and we saw pretty much everything in Rome last year, including the Vatican City.

I was planning on just staying on and doing laundry in the morning and then just relaxing until we sail away.

I woudl imagine we'll have to take part in the muster drill again....ugh!

Yes, just as regular fliers have to listen to the safety briefing, you must go to the drill, it's no big deal

Last year, we boarded in Venice where the first night was an overnight in port. We got on around lunchtime, dropped our bags and ate a quick lunch and then left the ship. Nobody said anything about being back a a certain time so we ended up staying off the ship through the evening, having dinner in port. When we got back on in the late evening, we found a note that said we'd missed muster and to report to the front desk in the morning, which we did. We expected to be scheduled for a make-up muster but all they did was ask us to read the information and know where our muster point was. That was it--and it was easy.

The sadder part to me was that our CC meet & mingle had also been scheduled for that first evening and we hadn't been given the notice about it so we missed it entirely. I was bummed, my husband--who doesn't really understand what goes on here--was less bummed. We ended up meeting a fair number of participants at the cocktail party and breakfast for whatever-the-elite-category is called now.

The first time we sailed, we had some people do that...they got off the ship and went into Monaco to the casino...we couldn't sail until they had done the muster drill. I remember there were others sleeping in the rooms and missed it.

I think our M&M was that first night also.
