Atlantis

Recommended Posts

Typicially every port you go to, you'll find taxi's willing to take you all over the place. I was in the Bahamas on Explorer in February and got a really nice tour of Atlantis (grounds, inside aquarium and casino) as well as the down town shopping district and some of the larger homes. Our guide obviously lived on the island and drove his mini-van as a taxi for a living and knew just where to go.

If your cruise does have a tour to the atlantis I definitely recommend it!! We did a tour two years ago and we got to go to many places that guests are only allowed to go to. If you take a taxi there I'm not sure if you would get to see as much. The resort is beautiful and not to be missed!

SOMd Cruiser.... Heading there in Feb 06. Cruising....

I have reservations at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island. The CS is located next door to the Atlantis. With these reservations, you get up to four - day passes to the Atlantis. Room is costing us $200.00.

Rooms at the Atlantis are very expensive. This makes it only $50 pp to go to the Atlantis.

Hope this helps.

Definitely go there...we did about 4 years ago while on a Disney cruise, it was beautiful and the inside underground aquarium was really great. Made you wish you could actually stay at the hotel for a day or so though, as the POOL area alone looked fantastic.

Spending 200.00 for a hotel room in the Bahamas is not really necessary. Just take the sea taxi to Paradise Island and Atlantis is a short and interesting walk away. When you want to swim, go back to the ship and swim in the pool or find a public beach. The water parks are not really a big enough deal to spend money on, IMHO. Go and see the Atlantis, it is worth seeing, but spending money for a hotel room? Not smart.

Actually, if you have kids, $200 on a hotel room is a great idea for those who can afford it. Tons of slides, fresh water pools as opposed to the ships salt water, a change of scenery from the ship. Just a new and fun experience. And cheaper than the cruise ship Atlantis excursion.

My daughter is also a hospitality (hotel) management major with a part time job as a pool attendant for a major upscale hotel chain. This will give her something to compare to what she is doing and open up alternatives to her future. We love exposing the kids to different travel experiences and this is actually a cheap way to experience Atlantis for a day. It may not be cheap to the average person, but it is cheap by Atlantis room cost standards.

We are looking so forward to it.

After people spend a few thousand dollars on a cruise, another 200.00 is a lot of money for a water park. I just don't think it's worth it. But then again, there is lots of people making tons of money out there and think their kids are worth the money, so you go for it. In my house that money would buy groceries for two weeks.

I guess we got a bargain on our JS for half of a few thousand. What's another $200. I know that most people have a bar tab that costs more than that. Our bar tab will be $0.

In our house it takes $300 for a week's worth of groceries. And we are all normal to thin in size. :) I can only guess what our gasoline bill is.

I understand Atlantis is more than a water park. It's not authentic Bahamian, that is for sure. But after spending weeks at a time as a teenager (for free) in the Bahamas out islands, I'm looking forward to exploring an upscale resort in Nassau for much less than the cost of a "cheap" room at Atlantis.

My husband works very hard to keep us entertained. :D He spends that much on a few bottles of wine. I'm actually the frugal one.

Just curious....but' date=' which cruiselines offer excursions to the Atlantis? What do they cost...and what do they include?

Thanks![/quote']

RCI - It's around 70 something dollars for a water taxi to Atlantis and use of the beach, chairs and a towel as I understand it. NO pool - unless you find a way to sneak in. I'm not a sneak.

OK. I just looked the excursion up on Carnival's website. They had this:

*******************************************************

Discover Nassau, the capital city as well as the cultural, commercial and financial heart of the Bahamas.

On this excursion you will:

Travel by ferry from Prince George dock, west to Arawak Cay.

Cruise along to Ft. Montague observing the many historical points of interest and the area’s local flavor.

Listen as your guide points out some of the famous properties and homes along the way.

Arrive at Paradise Island and proceed on foot to the world-renowned Atlantis Resort (approximately 10 minutes).

Be escorted through the spectacular “Atlantis Dig”.

See the tens of thousands of exotic fish and sea creatures as well as the ancient artifacts of Atlantis.

Visit the Atlantis Casino and Crystal shopping court.

Note: You will not have access to the pool or hotel facilities.

Not recommended for guests with walking any difficulties

****************************************************

It is a 2.5 hr excursion.

It says that the excursion is under $50.00.

So, for about the same $50.00.....I can book a room (4 people/$200) and spend the entire day @ the Atlantis.

Don't do the ship's excursion for $50! Better off doing the excursion on your own. You can purchase tickets to the Dig and everything else (not the pool area) for $29 and take the water taxi for another $6 round trip.

http://www.bahamasgo.com/watertaxi.htm

But like someone already said, for another $20 you can rent a "room" at Comfort Suites and get to use the slides and pool area and the Dig. You just have to pay your own $6 round-trip water taxi or car service.

Atlantis, itself, has cheaper rooms for around $220.00. We have stayed here several times, and it is well worth the money. The slide through the shark tank is awsome and so is the rest of the resort. If you are staying there, the digs are free, as is the rest of the resort. Off season, you may even get a cheaper rate.

All you can do is try.....

Good luck, and have a blast.....

I agree with Cindy in post #6. If the OP is going to Grand Bahama or Grand Bahama island, he/she is not going to Nassau, where Atlantis is located! They are probably docking at Freeport. Paradise island, Hog Island is located off of the island of Nassau.

Atlantis will probably not be an excursion on this cruise or this sailing. Remember to read carefully. :)

OK. I have a room booked at the Comfort Suites. I know that I can get four people into the Atlantis with this room.

If I have an additional two people that I am traveling with....can I pay extra and have the two join us?

If the CS knows that we are only there for the day....will they "sell" us the wristbands?

The only thing that is holding me back in booking a room is that I heard the water in the pools and slides are not heated. In December, the weather in the Bahamas can be a in the "chilly" 70s. I'm a little apprehensive.

Have you checked to see if there are rooms available to book? I booked in May 05 for Feb 06. Currently, there are no available rooms for the date we will be there.

Comfort Suites...that is.

Which, is why I posted my question above, about purchasing wristbands in addition to the four that come with the room.

Just something to think on.
