anandaindonesia Posted January 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2014 I wonder. Suppose after one or two days of cruising, we don't like our cabin. Can we pay to upgrade (assuming better category cabin is available)? If so, how to calculate the differences in fares? Michael via Tapatalk. sorry for typo. They will likely say nothing is available, but you may be surprised.
anandaindonesia Posted January 17, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted January 17, 2014 Thank you. So I know where to go, just in case. Hope it is not going to be anyway. Anybody has actual experience of upgrading mid-cruise, on Royal or other lines?
ShipRiders Posted January 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Thank you. So I know where to go, just in case. Hope it is not going to be anyway. Anybody has actual experience of upgrading mid-cruise, on Royal or other lines? Never heard of such an animal happening at all. Only time I have heard of a cabin change after the cruise has started is because of a problem of some sort. OR they won a suite from BINGO Edit to say "I can't speak for other lines" only Royal Edited January 17, 2014 by ShipRiders
Laurba99 Posted January 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2014 That happened to me because we won at bingo! (Only because that was the week dc had 32 inches of snow and other areas of course in northeast so I think this couple couldn't get their flight and we won their sky suite with butler. First balcony cabin we had on the side of the ship (only had day before) and loved it so now we book midship balconies.
LoveyHowell Posted January 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 17, 2014 That is an interesting questions. I have to imagine at some point in the past 5 decades someone has made a similar request. Maybe at Guest Services request to speak with the hotel director and explain you'd like a paid upgrade if available. Once the ship has set sail an unused room is not generating revenue; the chance to have a guest want to pay for an upgrade is probably rare. I agree with the opinion of others; you might be surprised / lucky.
Merion_Mom Posted January 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2014 By the time mid-cruise rolls around, any available cabins for upgrades will have been given or sold. I actually was upgraded on my last cruise, because I "followed procedure" and they love me. :D I was on a B2B. During cruise #1, I went to Guest Services and asked if there were a chance that I could get upgraded on cruise #2. I was told that they, on board, could only do this after the ship had sailed on day 1 of cruise #2. Then they would know if all paid passengers had actually shown up on board. It was the day of very very bad weather all over. In fact, many did not make it on board before we sailed. But many had contacted Royal Caribbean and indicated that they were flying to St. Maarten, our first port, and would join the ship there. (day 3) In fact, after we left St. Maarten, Guest Services determined that the planned occupants of an aft JS had not boarded, so they moved me from my Deck 2 oceanview to the Deck 7 JS. But this is rare. And they have to love you. :D
papaflamingo Posted January 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 17, 2014 If the ship isn't full (rare it seems these days) you may be able to, but you might want to ask at check in. We did that in 1999 (a long time ago) on NCL. We had an inside and asked about an oceanview. The "surly" check in guy (we were on an Interline rate) scolded my wife for asking "You didn't read the information! Being on an Interline rate YOU are not to ask for upgrades" (no kidding). Being "Polly Pureheart" my wife was mortified. I sarcastically told him that "we would have read the information, IF we had received any!" (no kidding). Then he nicely (go figure) said, "but we do have some oceanviews available, check out this cabin and come back down if you want to move" (no kidding). We didn't like it so we kept our original cabin. But we also have never cruised NCL again. The treatment at check in was a factor in our decision. Having said all that (sorry), if the ship isn't full and you want to upgrade, simply ask at check in and they will tell you how. I can't imagine wanting to move everything half way through a cruise. Then again, I'm sure there could be reasons.
