Getaway Questions: Ask 'Em Here!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'll be sailing on Norwegian Getaway on the Jan. 27-29 cruise to nowhere out of New York. While onboard, I'll also be attending a Q&A session. I haven't been told who, exactly, will be on the panel yet, but I assume there will be some NCL execs. If there's something you're dying to know, post it below, and I'll do my best to get as many questions answered as I can. (Please try to keep them Getaway related.)

Thanks!

Hello, will there be different acts in the grammy experience or a resident artist?

I have read mixed reviews on being able to open the balcony dividers between cabins. We have two 2 bedroom haven suites booked for June (they are right next to each other) and we would like to open the balcony divider for the entire cruise so we can use the space as one larger balcony for the family. Can you please check to see if they will allow this?

FYI, I asked that question on the live Q&A here on Cruise Critic yesterday morning, and the answer was that the performer in The Grammy Experience will change every 6 weeks.

Need to know exact type of coffee maker I can get in my room. Will have a balcony room. Yes, I know there is room service but I would prefer to make my own first cup of the day.

My son tells me there are no refrigerators in regular cruise rooms. Is this true of newer ships like Getaway. If no refrigerator, how does one keep milk/half and half fresh for coffee? How about keeping bottled water cold?

WiFi in rooms? Would love to bring my tablet to check my local news and emails while in room. Will there be a weeklong WiFi package that can be purchased? If so, what is price?

Would Norwegian consider including a stop at Great Stirrup Cay on Getaway's itinerary? Perhaps in place of Nassau.

I would suspect port contracts are made for at least one year, maybe more? So it's probably unlikely it would change anytime soon, though it doesn't hurt to lobby for it!

Wifi: yes, you can generally get wifi in your room. It's expensive and not always the fastest (e.g., don't count on watching movies seamlessly). Packages (the same fleetwide...you'll sometimes find specials once aboard):

Andreas posted a ton of pics, including a picture of the coffee pot (looks like it's a "pod" style pot:

I've always had a fridge on my NCL insides and oceanviews. Maybe it's different on the Getaway? It's filled with mini-bar stuff, but you can usually fit a few other things in there, or some people asked for the mini bar contents to be removed. Not me...I enjoy grabbing a soda from there a few times during the cruise. Better than the stuff in the bars on a gun.

Probably, but then it's essentially a sunk cost, so why not stop a GSC and keep any additional revenue generated? I'd rather get my drink on the beach at GSC then at Señor Frog's in Nassau.

Will you be doing your video "tour" of the ship during your cruise? When can we expect it? thanks!

HowardK, LrgPizza is correct. The acts will change every few weeks. The first one scheduled is Latin Grammy award-winning jazz flutist Nestor Torres, who will join the ship in February.

I'll see what else I can find out for the rest of you. Keep the questions coming!

Hi dalgirl. I won't be doing a full video tour, but I'll likely be doing video snippets of some sort. I'm not sure yet when or where they'll be posted, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out. Three of my CC colleagues will also be onboard Getaway for the Christening Feb. 7-8, so there will likely be additional video content coming from them, as well.

I'm so jealous!! I would love to check out the Getaway before our trip in June. I don't know how I missed out on this. Is it sold out?

Hi, Cruisegirl2004. I just checked Norwegian's site, and the sailing isn't listed. I'm taking that to mean it's either sold out or wasn't available to the general public. (I'm onboard as a member of the press for CC, and my fellow passengers are mostly other members of the media and travel agents.) However, it does look like there's a two-night Bahamas sailing available out of New York from Feb. 3-5 (after the ship transitions from the Bud Light Hotel back into Getaway after the "Big Game"). It ends in Nassau, though, so you'd have to fly back home after disembarking.

From what I've seen and read, it appears the casino is kind of spread out on the 7th deck and not contained in any one space. Kids are generally not allowed in casinos, so how does this work when visiting the 7th deck (O'Sheehan's, etc.)? Do the kids just need to be sure they are constantly moving along, and not pausing to look at the lights and bells and whistles?

If you have the chance, will you ask if there has been extra sound proofing for the spa mini suites since they are the deck below the pool area? I am hoping for a quiet time and am a bit concerned about the pool & bar above on deck 15. We are in 14168. Thank you so much,

We have read from various posts that the casino has a strong smell from people smoking in there. On other cruiselines, there is a certain day and time that the casino is nonsmoking. Would you be able to see if this will occur on this ship? Thanks!
