Hello all. We will be on the Gem in February and was wondering about the casino there. We were on the Breakaway in October and we liked the action there, but not the hosts(rude and cold). I earned alot of points and we are being comped a mini suite for our Gem cruise. How is the poker action, if any? How many craps tables and roughly how many other table games are there. Also how is the bar inside the casino. On the Breakaway the bar and waiters were awsome. Thanks

Been a couple years since I've been on the Gem. I believe there is one craps table. I remember spending a lot of time there. Same odds at the Breakaway, 3, 4 and 5 times. Bar was good as was the service. I'm not a big card player so I would be roughly guessing on that action. But the dealers I played with were fun. Did see poker action quite often.

I have not been on the Breakaway or Gem. I find your "cold and rude" comment noteworthy. I was on the Epic recently and experienced the same (one exception, fortunately). I have read similar comments about the Breakaway.

I am thinking the hosts do not work with an incentive program tied to players action on NCL ships This is an assumption only, but could explain the lack of personality (for lack of a better term). I have dealt with several land based hosts through the years and the vast majority have been friendly and helpful.

If you don't mind answering, I am curious as to how many points you accumulated in October. I assume you're primarily a table games player?

Thanks!

I've been on the Breakaway twice and haven't had any problem with the casino personal. I have on a couple other NCL ships but not that one. I knew one of the dealers from a previous cruise so we had some good chats. One night I did see a blackjack dealer take a players cards off the table and his bet after the had pulled a 21. 4 other guys at the table and none noticed the 21 except me. But I played mainly craps and they were very good.

Asubaru, I earned almost 14000 on my own plus the 5000 extra that you get after earning 5000. I did not realize that had I earned another 1200 it would have got me to the golden level and I would have gotten a suite on the coming cruise. All in all I had good casino experience, mainly because of the dealers and waiters being so good. The ones I reaaly liked are all moving to the getaway in February though. If not for them, I would have felt like I was bothering the hosts. I am glad that I walked away up almost 5 figures though.

Hi!

Just curious about the basis of your conclusion that if you had earned another 1200 points it would have gotten you a comped suite? I had about 22,000 points on breakaway the second time, and 15,000 points the first time, both last year, and now am VIP level, but they still only offered me a mini-suite, and it didnt seem to matter what cruise I selected -- I called a couple of times before we decided, and from Alaska, to Med, to Carib, to Bahamas, each time they offered me an aft mini-suite at best. On Alaska, the best offer was a lower level mini-suite. I ended up taking an aft mini on a 9 day out of NY to caribeean. A couple of times we have upgraded to a penthouse and once to Haven, but we've never been comped above mini-suite level. Is there some point level at which you believe a suite comp will be forthcoming on next cruise?
