junglejane Posted January 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2014 We've booked the Silhouette for Christmas. This will be our 5th time on Celebrity and our second time on the Silhouette. Our older DD will turn 18 in October, and will be a senior in high school. It's my understanding that she'll be too old for the teen program, which is fine. And we're not looking for an alcohol waiver. But it would be nice if she had an opportunity to meet other 18-20 year olds. Someone on another thread mentioned something called "Generation Next" that sounded like organized activities for 18-20 year olds. On our last Princess cruise (Xmas 2012) there was something listed in the daily schedule called Club 1820 and I'm hoping Celebrity has something similar, especially on a Christmas cruise full of families. Does anyone have experience with this?

Not sure how it all ended up...we had no children with us so we did not participate.
Rare ghstudio Posted January 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2014 It's not that big a ship. Most 18 year olds just meet each other around the pool or activities....they don't want formally organized socials. I think you may be over-parenting..... junglejane Posted January 25, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted January 25, 2014 I was hoping for some factual information. This is the post from another thread that mentions that Celebrity is rolling out a new program for young adults: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=41415684&postcount=19 20pluscruises: I have posted on the Roll Call but it's not too active yet. Ghstudio: thanks for your commentary. I'm sure DD will be fine. She is very independent. Her usual routine on past cruises has been to go to the teen meet 'n greet on the first night, meet some teens and then hang out with a few of them the rest of the week. So she is just hoping for a similar opportunity. It's not like she can hang out in the bars to meet people. I'm sure she'll spend time at the gym, spa and pool and meet people there. Kids this age usually make friends on their own. Also, factual info is she can gamble in the casino. Fun activities there for minimal money is a slot tournament and also if your roll call is running a slot pull.
junglejane Posted January 25, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted January 25, 2014 Interesting fact about the casino. I hadn't thought of that. But maybe I should clarify my original intended question: has anyone heard anything about Celebrity having or launching a "Generation Next" program for young adults (regardless of whether you think such a program is needed or a good idea). kitty9 Posted January 26, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Jane, I've not seen anything like that on any of my recent Celebrity cruises. Sorry. But that doesn't mean they won't have something by the time you cruise. Unfortunately, you'll just have to wait and see once your cruise gets closer. sheffield Posted January 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We just got back from a Silhouette cruise and there were several activities daily for 18-?21 year olds. I can't remember what it was called but there were things like ping pong and movies. I think there were daily activities for them.
TheWren Posted January 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2014 Someone on another thread mentioned something called "Generation Next" that sounded like organized activities for 18-20 year olds. I've checked back on the "Celebrity Today's" from last cruise. There were entries called "Generation NXT 18+". (It didn't give an explanation). Under this classification there was : On embarkation day -- Singles Party at 11.30pm Out of the 12 days cruise, many days did not have anything listed for this category, and what there was is below : ~~ another day : Basketball at 12.30. ~~ another day : X Box Bowling Tournament at 11.45am. ~~ another day : Soccer Challenge at 5.15pm. ~~ another day : Kinect for XBox360 Tournament at 11.45am. ~~ a Sea Day : pool games at midday, Pictionary at 3pm. ~~ a Sea Day : pool games at midday, basketball 3 on 3 at 5.30pm. Seems like it may be what you are referring to.

My DD at tht age wa also very indepenfent, but at the same time very shy...we would allow her to invite one friend to join us on the cruise....they had a great time! ...and I felt better having the two watching out for each other...I would still check with the roll call as many sign up much later in the game. It doesn't actually matter that much what the activities are. For her, it's mostly just an opportunity to meet some people her age.
epixx Posted January 26, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2014 We were on the Summit Christmas cruise with our 19 year old. They did offer a first night meeting for 18-25 year olds and social gatherings on some other nights, but I don't believe there were subsequent organized activities such as those posted above. Our 19 year old had no trouble meeting peers the first night and socializing with them for the rest of the cruise.
