Is Nassau really as much of a dangerous hole as I have been reading?

Just in Nassua. The building we go through to get out of port is under construction. So all the vendors have tents and kiosks set up in a row where you get taxis. There is a new courtyard near Senior Frogs with a restaurant. Mixed reviews on it.

We like the Fish Fry area and taxi or take local 10 bus to get there.Have always felt safe on local bus. You can ride it roundtrip(couple dollars ) and see the new largest casino being built in the Caribbean. It is on Cable Beach. Not sure when it will be open.Looks about ready.

I'd like a to mail a postcard back home while in Nassau. Apparently, there is a a post office on E Hill St. How safe is the area? Or should I just not venture past the touristy part of E Bay St.?

Also, is there a Starbucks store in a well-traveled touristy part of Nassau?

You can mail your post card right on the ship.

You can ask if they mail from the island first.

Enjoy

Update: when we went in December, we walked from the port to the Pirate Museum, from there to the Graycliff Hotel to see the chocolate factory (once we got to the hotel, we got a little lost trying to find the factory and wound up taking an unintended tour of the grounds as well as a construction site next door, where the workers kindly directed us back to where we wanted to go), and from Graycliff down to Junkanoo Beach, and after our beach time back to the port.

Not once did we feel unsafe, although the streets are narrow so you hope the drivers are paying attention. There were all sorts of residents walking around, and they were very friendly. Plenty of well-dressed women walking alone. There were police officers directing traffic on the street outside Junkanoo Beach. On the beach, there was a young man selling headphones, but he wasn't obnoxious about it and he was fun to talk with.

The stop in Nassau was my favorite for this cruise (we also stopped in Key West and Coco Cay). When I get my pictures organized, I can post them showing our route.

You can purchase stamps at Coles Pharmacy downtown, there's a post box on Bay Street near the straw market. Just ask the clerk in the pharmacy, she will point you in the right direction.

There's a starbucks just a block or so outside the port gates. Can't miss it.
