denims Posted February 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2014 April 20th being Easter Sunday and a sea day: wondering if regular cruisers on the Summit run (Caribbean) know if there ever has been a priest aboard to celebrate this Feast day? Rare cruisestitch Posted February 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2014 there probably will be a priest aboard. Here is the statement from the Celebrity FAQ regarding services: Are religious services available on board? Celebrity ships offer religious services for Catholic and Jewish faiths, as well as, Interdenominational services during major religious holidays (see detailed information below). Guests of all faiths are able to host their own spiritual fellowship or group gathering by inquiring with the Guest Relations Desk onboard. Catholic Mass: A Roman Catholic Priest will conduct daily mass during Lent, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Day. Interdenominational Services: A Minister will conduct services on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day. Jewish Services: A Jewish Rabbi or Cantor will conduct services during Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah. In-Port Religious Services: Please check with the Guest Relations Desk for information pertaining to your respective faith. Due to the varied itineraries, each ship has religious services information for local houses of worship. Holy Land Voyages: A Roman Catholic Priest will conduct Daily and Sunday Mass during each Holy Land cruise. A Jewish Rabbi or Cantor will conduct Friday evening Shabbat Service during each Holy Land cruise.

There is almost always a Catholic Priest on board to do mass. Many ships have daily mass. You can almost guarantee that one will be on for an Easter sailing. Rare cruisestitch Posted February 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2014 "There is almost always a Catholic Priest on board to do mass. Many ships have daily mass. " This may have been true at one time on Celebrity, but no longer. Now you will only have a priest on board around Christmas and Easter, possibly Ash Wednesday as well. Other lines may do things differently.

BosoxI Posted February 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2014 I am always grateful that Celebrity so frequently has clergy on board during major religious celebrations. I hope there's a priest on the Eclipse TA in April or I'm going to have to hop in a cab and find a church. Last time I did that it set me back $43, but it was money well spent. mom23guys Posted February 6, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2014 They always have a priest Onboard for Lent, everyday from Ash Wednesday until Easter. Last year I went down to mass and surprise. It was a priest that had been at our parish more than 20 years ago.
karena1 Posted February 6, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Any time we have been cruising for Easter, on any line, there has always been a priest onboard to say Easter Mass. Christmas always one doing Midnight or Christmas Day mass.
Blue Lagoon Posted February 6, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Once we were told by Guest Services that there was a priest on board but services had not been determined as yet. This was a Sunday and embarkation day. Lo and behold, we spotted the priest in one of the Conference rooms and had a Mass all to ourselves. I believe that monitoring the Catholic services falls under the umbrella of the Cruise Director's duties. Q, who has left the fleet, did a superb job on the Equinox arranging for the string trio to accompany the Mass in the theatre. On our questionnaire at the end of the voyage, we always make a comment if there is no priest on board. When we started cruising with Celebrity, the tradition that was started by the founding family (Chandris) did guarantee that a Catholic priest would be celebrating Mass. Celebrity must have gotten some flack so back in 2010, the policy changed.
WestLakeGirl Posted February 6, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Wasn't the Chandris family Greek Orthodox?
