bigjeter312 Posted February 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2014 Does Celebrity offer formal Bridge play on their ships? If so, do they offer duplicate bridge. I traveled Celebrity several years ago and they had a bridge session both in the morning and afternoon that was run by a bridge expert who was employed by the cruise line. Does Celebrity offer this on trans-Atlantic

jackdiamond Posted February 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2014 And, those bridge experts were, in most cases, not Celebrity employees. In fact, they were individuals who were given partial free transport for their services.
baldercash Posted February 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I sailed Oceania and it was offered on the 19 day cruise I was on. I signed up for the learners sessions and was awarded best new player. There was not much else offered so I attended the lessons. The couple teaching were from Australia and they said the average age of a Bridge player in the US was 65. A game that is rapidly loosing traction. deise17311 Posted February 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2014 Azamara had it last January...however, on our 1/11/14 Reflection sailing they did not...quite disappointed...especially because most activities these days seemed to be a disguised sales pitch... Does Celebrity offer this on trans-Atlantic There was a discussion about this last month here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1966403 Celebrity talked about bringing one back but it hasn't happened. On both my cruises I did not see a huge demand for bridge players. There were a couple of small groups on their own but nothing formal.

Duplicate bridge is hardly losing traction and now getting even more popular as baby boomers are aging/ one of the best games to keep your mind and memory agile There are bridge cruises........check into them On Princess, there use to be bridge ID in the daily newspaper Barbara

Some of them will be playing for the next 30 years! I'm way ahead of them -- well, first of all, I'm 67, but more importantly, I've been playing duplicate for 40+ years. I don't know how many years I have left, but I expect I'll be playing bridge for most of them. Just not on a cruise ship! :D
