Pre-Cruise Hotel Suggestions

We are planning a Freedom cruise for January 2015. We are three families cruising together (6 adults, 5 kids).

We are planning to arrive in Orlando on Saturday. Any thoughts on where to stay? Should we stay somewhere in Orlando and travel to the pier on Sunday or stay at Port Canaveral?

The pool is probably what is most important so the kids can swim.

We stayed near the port. The country inn and suites has a free shuttle to the port. Free breakfast in the morning and free parking during your cruise. Right at the port are some great places to eat the night you get in. I went on Thrifty car rental daily, and I was able to get a car for the entire trip for cheaper than any airport shuttle or cab. It was nice to have a place to keep items we wouldn't need on the cruise. Also we used it to store our luggage post cruise prior to our flight. The hotel shuttle driver Dwayne was great. Gave us his cell number. We called him after the cruise. He was there in ten minutes to pick us up.

In May we stayed at Comfort Inn and Suites on Atlantic in Coco Beach. It was DH, DD 10, DS 17 and myself.

It was 1/2 block to the beach, 1/2 block to Ron Jon's surf shop, and close to some great restaurants. They have a nice pool, onsite bar, shuffleboard, ping pong. Huge breakfast and very reasonably priced room rates. Depending on your transportation, they also have an airport shuttle that picks you up and a port shuttle to take you to the ship; or they have a park and cruise option too. We even got a room with a great view of the ocean in the tower. Will definitely stay there again.

I cruised Freedom with 6 grandkids; we stayed at the Hyatt inside Orlando airport. We chose this hotel for these reasons:

1. we had families coming from Wash DC, and Cincinnati, OH; the little kids were tired from flying; so checking into hotel was a breeze

2. Hotel with pool.. Hyatt has a pool

3. Fast food for kids; since Hyatt is inside airport; you have access to all the food court restaurants in the airport.

4. We pre-arranged transportation right from the hotel. They picked us up in a van and drove us to port. They stopped at Targets close to the port so the woman could get all the small stuff they needed.

Hope this helps

If you arrive early, Ron Jon Cape Caribe resort in Cocoa Beach is amazing, esp for all the kids in your group. They have a lazy river, water slide, splash-zone (for smaller kids), huge indoor playground, movie theater, mini golf, all without additional charge.
