New Commercial

There's a whole legion of kids just dumbfounded because they ate skittles and a rainbow didn't fly out of their mouths. Or better yet, they put on darth vader costumes expecting to lift a car. Or ate Doritos and didn't blast off! If you can't teach your kids television isn't reality, then maybe they shouldn't watch t.v.

I'm currently in therapy because, after eating a green M&M, I didn't hit a home run.

I thought green M&M's did something else.

Anyway, Carnival should put a disclaimer at the bottom of commercial... something like, "Please do not try this on your actual Carnival Cruise. It is dangerous and not allowed." and then instead of the one loud horn at the end, make it three.

yeah we saw it during the previews at the new LEGO movie yesterday.......I told my Wife that does not make sense why Carnival would advertise that like that especially to a theatre full of kids?

Hmm, because they want to sell tickets! Sucks for the kids that will want to do it on their upcoming cruises. I hate that kind of false advertising! They know it isn't allowed, so why get kid's hopes up that they might be able to do something "fun" like that.

Kids aren't stupid! They know what's real and what's not for the most part. And this looks very doable and, in fact, there are 4 kids that did it in the commercial. It's something that if allowed, which it isn't, is totally doable! I personally didn't even know that only one kid could go down the slide at one time. At the resort we go to kids do it all the time and there's not been an accident that I've ever heard of. Some kids will be disappointed when Carnival tells them on their cruise that they can't do it. Is it the end of the world? No, but still, why advertise something that isn't allowed. There's no real need for it. Oh yeah, they want to sell tickets and by lying to kids and their parents they think they can.

You hit the nail on the head. This is what many people are missing. This is not some kind of absolutely crazy physically impossible activity or some fantasy action. It's totally doable, and has been done many times in other places where it is allowed. For the most part, kids will understand that this is doable while also understanding that the crazy examples of other things given in this thread are not doable.

While watching the Olympics the past couple of days, I've noticed a cute Carnival commercial where 4 (apparently preteen) boys (acting very cool), head for a water slide. They go down it all hooked together. Gee, whenever we've gone on (or watched others go on), any of Carnival's water slides, the attendants at the top launch site only allow one person at a time to head down a slide. If they have changed that policy, fine. If they haven't, they are certainly giving the impression they have! Kids are going to think they can go down in groups like on the commercial then be disappointed when they find out it isn't allowed.

I think it's a cute commercial, I didn't actually see the disclaimer but knew that this wouldn't be allowed....unfortunately it's going to put the "bad guy" hat on the parents when they tell their very excited kids that it's not really allowed.

You posters are forgetting it's a simple but cute commercial for fun on the ship that correlates with bobsledding in the Olympics. It's not hard to tell your child it was simply an ad reflecting this. If it wasn't for winter Olympics, the commercial wouldn't even exist.

If you look back over the years at their past commercials, nothing that they show on them is what it's really like on a cruise. They show models that weigh 98 pounds soaking wet strutting their stuff along the Lido deck. In reality you'll see plus sized people wearing florescent green bakinis.

They show people yelling in the casino because they won a jackpot. In reality, you'll see people yelling because they lost their kiesters in the casino.

People in the MDR all dressed up in their Sunday best while in reality, whatever they can get away with.

I won't say it's up to the parents but things are a lot different in real life than they are on a commercial. Nothing ever works as well as they let on yet people still keep buying the stuff. People will still keep cruisiing and some kids will be disappointed but most will probably not even remember the commercial.

I think it's kind of like the car commercials where you see them flying along some crazy race course at 100 mph. There's a disclaimer that it's a closed course with a professional driver. Commercials sell the product by exaggerating, not showing the reality.

Its irresponsible. Next they will be showing people fishing and barbecuing.

And it gives the wrong idea for kids to do this on playgrounds and pools around the world.

I think my son was 4 the first time he commented on the fact that things aren't always as they seem in commercials. (it was in reference to a toy). If the bobsledding slide on carnival is your child's first experience with "things aren't always as they seem in commercials from the marketing department" then just consider it a learning experience they can bring forward with them into adult life.

My boys knew right away it was about the luge. The only kids it might affect are the new ones that have never been to the slides. Most kids have been to water parks and are aware of the "one at a time" rule that is pretty much everywhere unless you are on a tube for two. We love that commercial, btw, so fun!!

If that is the only thing they are disappointed in from an Ad then they are doing good. It is "TV", and things on tv are not reality. Maybe this is a good learning tool for them. I know I am always disappointed when I see a wonderful looking burger on a commercial then actually unwrap one to eat. now that is really a let down. :( I think most kids are going to know that what happens in commercials are not reality.

It only gives the wrong idea if the parents are idiots and have zero parenting skills.

I took my dad on NCL's Breakaway. If anyone has seen their commercials last year, it showed the ship with the New York City Skyline (all the buildings) on the top deck.

My dad asked me, "ohhh ... which building is our cabin in??"

:p

Most parents would be at the bottom of the slide, not the top, if at all.

The sequel will have kids running with scissors, or climbing on rails,, but that can also be explained that its only TV.

Geez reminds me how kids aren't allowed to watch cartoons we grew up on, like Tom & Jerry...kids can't watch because they are always trying to hurt each other. So my 11 year old niece was watching it once and I jokingly asked her if she was allowed to watch it, and she said "yes". So then I asked her if she ever watched Roadrunner and she said yes. I asked "Does watching that make you want to buy an ACME bomb and blow something up?" She said "no...why would it, the Coyote's plans never work anyway!" Smart kid!
