Price drops

Hi fellow cruisers ,

Does anybody know if Costa honours price drops after booking or not , I would like to book to secure a cabin but not sure if we will overpay if we book now instead of waiting , we are looking to go early Oct

If you are only under deposit and in the US they should honor the price drop. If not, cancel (get your money back ) and rebook.

Except in some countries you'll lose the original deposit doing that. Still of the price drop is significant can be worth losing the initial deposit.

Yes, we'd lose our original deposit - entirely different rules in UK. Rarely worth losing to re-book.

We just recently experienced this for some clients on Costa Fortuna. Almost immediately after final payment Costa dropped the price by a lot. They would not give the customers the lower fare. Finally after much back and forth they gave them a one category upgrade that was only worth about $50 per person. That being said we had a similar experience with Holland America. In that case they would not refund or credit the difference but did give the guests an upgrade to a category that was priced at about the same as they had paid.

Price drops being honoured by Costa depends entirely upon the region / country where the cruise was booked and the country of residence of the person booking the cruise.

 

In Europe (EU) once you have paid your deposit then you have entered into a contract to cruise, cancellation of a cruise you will loose your deposit and also incur additional charges depending how many days out you are. Costa is not obliged to pass on any price drop.

 

That being said in Costa's 2014 Catalogue it states:Das Costa Preisversprechen

Garantierte Vorfreude von Anfang an! Wer hat schon Lust, früh zu buchen und später doch noch einen günstigeren Preis zu entdecken? Das passiert Ihnen mit Costa garantiert nicht: Sollte Ihre Reise in der von Ihnen gebuchten Kategorie Classic oder Premium zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bei gleichen Leistungen günstiger zu erhalten sein, bekommen Sie den Differenzbetrag erstattet. Versprochen!

 

The Costa Price Pledge basically says "If after booking the price for your category falls and all conditions remain the same then you will be refunded the difference,".

 

Check your Costa catalogue to see if the guarantee is also applicable for your country.

In the US after final payment is made you are more or less stuck with the price that you paid. However, it is not unheard of to receive a "free" upgrade.
