There are several rental car agencies in the port area that have free shuttles from the port area to the agency office. Offhand I know of Avis, Budget, and Hertz, and I believe there are more.

We rented a minivan there, but we reserved it in advance.

A friend of mine rented a 13 seat van from Budget at the port, he was supposed to have 2 SUV's but they had messed up the reservation, so gave him the van instead, so they are available

They are available, but if time is an issue I'd look for alternate transportation. The line at the rental agencies can be quite long, especially if it's on a day that another ship is embarking/disembarking. There may also be a wait for an available shuttle if busy...

I believe that you are talking about a port call, not embarkation or disembarkation. If I am wrong, I apologize.

 

On such a day, things should be less crowded.

 

For a large van, an advance reservation would be the way to go.

 

ALL of the rental agencies have facilities near the port.

 

For a car, I have used Thrifty with good results.

 

Just shop all of them for the best price on a large van.
