Payment for shuttle buses

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Golden Princess 31st July and will probably take advantage of some of the shuttle buses to get to the town centres e.g Copenhagen. Do I need cash (dollars or local currency?) or is the amount added to our ship board account.

Usually the shuttle buses can be charged to your shipboard account. You normally sign up for them at the Tour desk. This is because the cruise line arranges with a local agent to set up the transportation.

Have a great next cruise.

We used the Princess shuttle to Dublin. Although you could book at the tour desk in advance, you could also sign for it at the bus, just giving you cabin number. It was $4.00 each, single journey.

I had the same experience as cinnamon on the Spitsbergen cruise on the Sea Princess. The ship does all it can to get you to book in advance, but it wasn't necessary to do so in either of the ports where shuttles were arranged (Trondheim and Tromso).

This was a good thing, because it was easier and faster to walk into town in Trondheim - traffic was terrible, and the ship lied about it being 2 miles to the centre of town, which was more like ½ a mile away. So we got off the ship, took a look at the map and the city, and walked.

When we docked in Tromso, however, the town was a fair ways away, this time more like 2 miles. So we paid to go into town. When we'd finished, the easiest thing was to jump on the bus back as we were nearby, but not paying in advance meant that we could also have jumped into a taxi if that had been more convenient - and it would almost certainly have been cheaper to do it by taxi anyway.
