Catalina island

Recommended Posts

When we were on Catalina, we walked to one of the stands that rents golf carts and just drove around and did some sightseeing at our own leisure. Sorry, don't remember the cost, but it wasn't much. They will give you a map that highlights where you can and can't go. We really enjoyed doing that while there.

We took a ships excursion on a glass bottom boat and when we got off we noticed people buying the same trip at the kiosk on the pier for $15 less per person. So yeah just get off and decide what you want to do. It is a quaint little area.

As others have said you can take the ships tender to Catalina and just walk around. The golf carts are approx. 40.00 per hour but the last two times we were there it was CASH only!!!! You can walk around town easily and that is fun too. Also tours can be purchased on the dock once you get off the tender for less than the ships.

You can walk over to the casino (not a real casino) that used to be a ballroom. They have a small museum there with history of the island. Also, great shopping and some good restaurants on the island.

What is nice about Catalina is it is not like the gauntlet one faces when getting off the ship in Mexico with peddlers everywhere you turn. Kind of refreshing not having to say no gracias every two seconds :D.
