Ragnar Danneskjold Posted December 4, 2015 #3126 Share Posted December 4, 2015 i slip a way for a couple of days and the thread turns into wild speculation.... Hum, thanks for the invite, will likely take you up on it some day. Provence and Burgandy on the trip list. Ha, our lot is likely smaller than MJ's petting zoo... The wine room will be less than 1,000 bottles, hardly super-dooper these days. You and Jim will be invited to the "Grand Filling" of the wine room. Bring good stuff :D
gcmv Posted December 4, 2015 #3127 Share Posted December 4, 2015 We had visitors coming for coffee in an hour. At least meanwhile we have cancelled the planned visit. PS Yes they are SD friends (the ones that intended to visit). And very good friends too. We met them on their honeymoon on SD and now they have two young children (which they dont think is right to bring on SD for both their children's sake and for the comfort of guests). So now Hum and Blondie are sort of "uncles and aunts" Dearest ho-hum, please tell the whole truth: Ho-hum feared that the young children could destroy his palace complex during the at least 4-hour inspection of the wine cellar with the SD-friends and needed an excuse to cancel the visit. :D By the way, uncle Hum - do you really want to be compliant?! Save the money for the fuse and pour it into Petrus or Ruinard ... ;)

Ragnar Danneskjold Posted December 5, 2015 #3129 Share Posted December 5, 2015 You see, the glass-fronted wine room is a clever ploy. When guests come over for dinner/parties they will see it and want a closer look. We will fill many of the spaces in the shelving with two buck chuck, but place a couple of "ringers" in the upper shelves. We will leave a fair number of spots open. We'll show the ringers from the upper shelves, and some TBC from a low shelf. Of course guests on their next visit will bring good stuff, as they would want to see their gifts placed in the upper shelves :D Hopefully the ensuing peer pressure will lead to some Petrus, etc. appearing in the shelves.... You have been quiet for a while.........guess you have been busy repairing all those Volkswagens ! Haha Just another 7 million to go......and they keep finding more ! Sound advice as always from yourself.......why not both though (Petrus & Ruinart) ?? Hum provides the "little darlings" with costumes when they visit so Hum is never disturbed and his wines are saved !

You ruddy evil genius and manipulator of the feeble (aka HH) ! May Hum supply a few of these humble Californian wines. When Hum asked the SD sommelier what wine he would recommend for Hum, he had no hesitation in telling Hum "Stu Pedasso"...... Or does winter stop everything ? "Connections" ? Hum does'nt want them "hit" !!! Haha Thanks for the kind offer but what Hum has seen of Canadian house construction and service installations.....they are so much more advanced than here in Britain ! Your restraint is only exceeded by your self control.....As to wine, in the South, Stu Pedazz is often paired with Stu Peduzz. Just ask Forrest, Forrest Gump. Just returned from Puerto Penasco, MX, on the Sea of Cortez. An easy 3.5 hours drive from Mi Casa. Brought home some fabulous shrimp. ho-hum Posted December 7, 2015 Author #3137 Share Posted December 7, 2015 Hi K. In Rome, we have had nice stays at Hotel Valadier. Decent website. Near to the Spanish Steps and the World's most Expensive McDonalds! Try to get an upper room not facing the street as there is a lively night time street scene if you try to go to bed too early. As far as Cannes........Last there I was a backpacking student and don't remember a thing other than all the topless Wimmen! Sorry.:D Haha......oh Jim you are bringing back memories. Hum and his best friend......(and Hum saw him for Sunday lunch last week)....did a road trip to the South of France in an old Ford. We dropped into Hum's "lady" (at the time) who he met when he was very, very young. Her family lived outside Paris. We drove down to St.Tropez in the hope of meeting BB and then onto Juan-les-pins. Now that was brilliant. The girls were so sophisticated ...... Hum fell in love every day. He took up smoking Gitanes, drank coffee and tried to look like Alain Delon and listened to Jacques Loussier's "Play Bach" all day long. Procul Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale"played incessantly too. The place to be was J-l-P: we stayed on a campsite over the road from the beach. Happy days. Maybe we were there around the same time ?

My Father had befriended a French couple during WWII so they graciously provided me with a home base for the Riviera. They had a key to this private beach which I used as if I was Bond, James Bond. Complete with Cabanas, loungers, Beach Boys to serve, really the top. it was in 1969 so probably not the same time. I never found BB either but I did get thrown out of the Casino at Monte Carlo..No, not for excessive winnings, I was dressed in my best bell bottom jeans, sneakers, and a suede jacket......Seems that was not dressy enough for them. Too bad. I had $20 worth of Francs in my pocket and was looking for a good time.:D

Blondie and Hum have just returned from a very posh cinema with comfortable armchairs and serving wine and we watched ......... James Bond ! And when Hum was in France, the currency was also francs ! Your father's connection sounds fascinating too. Hum will press you for the story when we meet up. The summer of '69 ehhh... what times. ho-hum Posted December 10, 2015 Author #3143 Share Posted December 10, 2015 It's amazing who you pick up on the "Soggy Dollar Bar" vid-cam at Joost Van Dyke on a Saturday ........ is that the ruggedly handsome, American "homeless" guy and a few of his chums drinking a cold beer ? You should check it out sometime.......it's fun to drop into the Caribbean from time to time to see SDII and escape the winter blues. ho-hum Posted December 11, 2015 Author #3144 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Any advice for Hum being on SD over Xmas ? Never done it before......Hum's a Xmas sailing virgin. What's it like ? Does the Captain dress up as Santa ? Will Santa come into everyone's cabin leaving a stocking full of oranges, apples etc.. At the end of the bed ? Hum saw the funnel on SDII being cleaned on the crossing, so preparations are in place for his arrival. Will we eat turkey ? Is the vessel be-decked up with "fairy lights" ? Will the crew go round the cabins singing carols for the ex-seamen (and women) fund ? Must'nt forget the mistletoe (Zimmy, Lady V and Lois will be onboard). Now is it just a peck on the cheek, on the lips or a full on snog ? They can't refuse, right ? Better bring a present for Jim as Santa only brings gifts for those that have been good. By the way Jim, your advice about what to do with the Xmas tree was anatomically not possible !! Bet ol' Cabbie has a few suggestions for Hum too.......indeed. Poppy1966 Posted December 11, 2015 #3145 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Ho Hum. Sorry tell you about Santa. I found out a long time ago he doesn't exist!!!! Think it was the year I wanted a skateboard (yes I was a bit of a tomboy) and found my present in my parents wardrobe about 12 Dec. so every day after school I would come home, check no one was around, get my skateboard from their wardrobe and skate up and down the upstairs landing for an hour or so. Being an old house (120 years +) it was a very very long landing so after an hour I was knackered. By Xmas day I was bored stupid of it. anyway wish I was out of here too for Xmas and onboard somewhere for Xmas. Happy sailing!!:)

Jim Avery Posted December 11, 2015 #3147 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Onboard last year at Christmas the only real issue was the pool was so full of children you couldn't get near it. The good news was that this meant there were almost no tiny tipplers in the bars. Never mind, it was all good fun and being able to escape ashore in Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta certainly helped.......SeaDream? Of course not.....Holland America out of San Diego. But on Christmas, turkey was had by all.... Ho Ho Ho.
