seaofwonder Posted March 16, 2014 Author #452 Share Posted March 16, 2014 You're making good time. Glad the rain is moving through; ready for some sunshine. Those that are embarking today will appreciate it. Although I went outside a few minutes ago and it' rather cool. Just 225 miles to go :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Border Granny Posted March 16, 2014 #453 Share Posted March 16, 2014 When I was on the Triumph last month we didn't dock until 2, and didn't start debark until almost 4. After the cruise director called for the people with flight issues and the dock 1 self assists to go, she came back on and before she called for deck two self assists, she announced that 700 people apparently lived on deck one and had flights to catch, and to please honor the debark procedure. Therein lies the biggest problem when the passengers don't follow the rules. My daughter that was on NOS this morning said they were assigned to a room to go to and wait to be called, but it was full so they were told to wait in a line outside the room, then people started cutting in line. A RCI crew member did make them go to the back of the line when they caught them. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
Shekim Posted March 16, 2014 #454 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Since my cruise is 5/25 I am hoping fog wont be an issue...crossing fingers. It won't be an issue. I'm counting on today being the last day for fog. It's getting warmer, so is the water. We board 3/30 and it would be nice for all involved that this fog disappear! :D
seaofwonder Posted March 16, 2014 Author #455 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Border granny - I absolutely agree. We were following the rules by waiting for announcements. Then I saw people walking off so we hauled butt downstairs and encountered the mess. We had letter B for self assist and I'm guessing a whole lot of people didn't have anything. maggiecharlie Posted March 16, 2014 #458 Share Posted March 16, 2014 I really wish people would just follow the rules and be paitient. If everyone would just do that things would go smoothly. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
haywardwis Posted March 16, 2014 #459 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Just curious but if you don't do self assist, how long will it take to see your luggage on the other side? We sail next week and have a tight return flight out of Hobby. I don't know that we would have made it back for a 12:30pm flight today? Thoughts on the best way to do that if we have a fog delay? Depends what number luggage tag you have. The earliest luggage tag numbers are normally scheduled to get off the ship 30 - 45 minutes after self-assist starts. If you have an early flight, I'd go to Guest Services early in the cruise and ask for the lowest luggage tag numbers you can get.

I don't think you would have made it....we weren't in the parking lot until just after 10 am and we did self assist. With a tight connection, I would recommend the self assist. Self assist starts at 7:15 am. The earliest non- suite/non-status wasn't starting until well after 8 am. Self assist is really easy (when there isn't a fog delay!)...you just have to be able to pull your bags behind you :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Edited March 16, 2014 by seaofwonder
Border Granny Posted March 16, 2014 #462 Share Posted March 16, 2014 And use the porter line if you're rushing to a flight, it's worth the couple bucks a bag. They take you through a different line for immigration, and it saves a huge amount of time, plus will take you all the way out of the terminal. Last month the line just to get to he immigration desk was tripled snaked, and we were cleared by customs in less than 15 minutes. jdotexas Posted March 16, 2014 #466 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Thank you Seaofwonder, for your time in writing during your cruise. I looked forward to reading this thread everyday! Our 11th cruise is coming this summer on the Navi. We had already decided not to go self-assist this time. Life's too short to get stressed out like what we were going through. I look forward to looking at your pics. BTW do you recall how often shrimp cocktail was on the menu?
Theredofshaw Posted March 16, 2014 #467 Share Posted March 16, 2014 My thought is they should set up an obstacle course and time people lugging their luggage through. Under a certain cut, then u get to self debark. hahahaha... someone should make this a CC mingle event

Fog delays this late in the year are rare, but this has been quite a wacky winter for us.:p In my experience, disembarking from the Roatan/Belize itinerary is quite a bit slower because of CBP. Two years ago we were in the first regular tag group, escorted off by the concierge, and it took us three hours to get off and clear customs! I think even if conditions are perfect, if you can handle your own bags that's the way to go if you have a flight to catch. seaofwonder Posted March 16, 2014 Author #474 Share Posted March 16, 2014 Customs cleared the ship QUICK. Maybe due to the fog delay? Shrimp cocktail every night. And thanks to everyone reading :) unpacked, catching up on the dvr, and doing some laundry. Back to reality.
