Getaway - Smoking policy?

I've read some posts for the Getaway, saying that smoking is allowed in all the bars. Originally I heard that smoking was only allowed on one deck, outdoors. Can anyone confirm if there was smoking in indoor areas on the ship?? I've already booked for 4/19 so it's a moot point, but I'd like to hear some feedback on it.

The whole casino area including the bar near the noddle bar and open atrium area is non smoking. So they have already done what you suggested they do from day one.

Is there really a smoke-free part of the casino? This would influence my decision to try a new ship if that was the case.

I understand all of the restaurants are smoke free fleetwide.

OK, I've looked at the NCL smoking policy..

What about smoking on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so on your balcony, in the casino or in the Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sports decks, kids’ pool areas and other designated nonsmoking areas). Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

Now, the Sunset Bar is adjacent to The Cigar Lounge on Getaway and has an outside area on The Waterfront. It looks like a bar but if they serve food there its a food venue. Can I smoke a cigar there while having a drink?

Why the shock Donna? it's never been allowed around the kid's pool area since I've started cruising, that I know of. Not that I spend a lot of time back by the kid's pool :)

Not smoking in kid's pool area makes sense.

Now does this make sense? A few years ago I bought a new car (import). No ashtray, but there was a spot where it was supposed to be. So I asked it the ashtray could be ordered and was told "oh no" not in the US. Really! Imagine my surprise the first time I rode in the back and found there was an ashtray. Guess it's OK for the kids to light up but not the adults:eek:

Yes, it is.

Only in a certain area on the waterfront if I remember correctly when I was on the Breakaway. It was near the bar that you could get to either from the inside of the ship or from the Waterfront area outside. Fat Cats used to be at that bar on the Breakaway but i can't for the life of me remember the name of the bar.......although the bar's name might be different on the Getaway.

So.....it would really depend on what cabin you had and where it was located above the waterfront.

Is smoking allowed on the waterfront area? Our cabin is right above this area and I'm concerned we won't be able to enjoy the balcony.

Yes, it is.

Something that you may consider, is that there is at least 10 feet between you and the deck below you (complete floor). Granted normally I will agree smoke rises (indoors without any air movement) but I have yet to see it go 10' in the air. And added to that you have a moving ship with a breeze that will be taking it back and out to sea. I think you should be fine to enjoy the balcony.

On the Getaway, there was smoking on the Waterfront at both the Sunset Bar and Sugarcanes Mojito Bar. These are on opposite sides of the ship.

Hmmmm, now that's strange. Usually the smoking areas are only on the port side.

In some cases Harriet. Because that's what I thought.

ie. On the Star, it was the port side only of the pool deck and the port side only of the promenade. And yet on the Dawn, it was the port side only of the pool deck but both sides of the promenade. And although all the smoker's seemed to stay to the port side at Bimini, there was no signage stating no smoking on the starboard side and there was nothing stating no smoking or designating a particular side of the tiers on deck 13.

So there really doesn't seem to be consistency with that.

They weren't really smoking areas per se; it was just that people were allowed to smoke at the outside bars.

Even so....

I always thought that smoking outdoors could only be on the port side of the ship, certain areas in the pool area (again, port side) and certain areas of H20 towards the front of the ship on the Breakaway.
