Traveller's Cheques?

Hi everyone, found lots of good info and tips here, so thankful to have found this site before sailing!

I will be travel with a friend of mine and she asked if she can use traveller's cheque on the ship? I realize we will be given a sea pass and paid whatever amount we had spent on the last day, but will traveller's cheque be accepted as a payment type? The traveller's cheques she got them from a few years back on her trip to the US so she is hoping she can use them up when she had the chance because these days it's becoming less common...

Thanks in advance!

The short answer is "yes". US travellers cheques can be used at guest services or in the casino as if they were cash. You will need your sea pass card and/or passport when 'cashing' the cheques and there is no charge/commission for doing so. Have a great trip.

She can cash them at the casino or guest services but she cannot use them for purchases, you can only use your seapass for purchases.

If she wishes to settle her SeaPass account on the last day with the TC, that will be fine. Charge purchases in the gift shops, hair salon, photographer, bar, specialty restaurant, etc to the SeaPass card and use the TC at the end of the cruise to pay off the SeaPass account

Just inform her that off the ship, many places no longer take traveler's checks. They are, for better or worse, going the way of the dinosaur, and many places just don't want to hassle with them anymore. I also know that very few places even issue traveler's checks such as banks. I don't think even AAA does them.

Yes that's to our understanding too that's why she'd like to use them up if she can!

On the Century cruise we did last month I was told by in the casino at their cash out booth that they no longer accepted traveler's checks and I could only cash them at guest services.
