wspdude Posted March 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Just found out NCL canceled 11 day Southern Caribbean Cruise for a suddenly booked charter!! Only cruise on NCL option for more than 7 days is out of NYC in winter. How stupid considering your 2 days at sea in beginning and end are in colder weather climate. We want to escape from winter. Other option is Panama Cruise for $600+ more per person balcony class. How inconsiderate of NCL to treat loyal booked customers this way. Offering a $50 room credit for inconvenience is not the answer or good relations. Get another ship to Miami to accommodate this popular cruise for those of us who want more than 7 day. They should also compensate costs of rebooking on another option. Noticed all their prices jumped 25%+ on other NCL cruises since the Pearl charter announcement. Corporate greed!!! Considering leaving NCL if this is how they treat loyal Latitude Members and cruisers. Sucks!!!!

deladypilot Posted March 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2014 So sorry to hear your trip got cancelled. This is the nature of the cruise business unfortunately. All the cruise lines do it. It is just sad though that none of them can keep from booking a particular cruise until they know for sure that they are going to charter it. Best of luck to you

They make decisions knowing they will make some people happy, and some people mad. I am sure they consider those that have already booked, but have to look at the BIG PICTURE. It is a business. Sorry about your plans.
rigs32 Posted March 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Wouldn't repositioning another ship to accommodate you put other travelers in the same predicament? NCL doesn't have extra ships in storage some place.
roger001 Posted March 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2014 It was a year away still. I just re booked for the next month....another 10 days on the Pearl. If it was just weeks or even maybe a month or two away, yea more to consider. But a year...no big deal.

Considering leaving NCL if this is how they treat loyal Latitude Members and cruisers. Sucks!!!! They have three 10 day cruises leaving March 6th, 16th, and April 6th. They also have an 11 day leaving March 26th. They're not just offering you a $50 on board credit, they're offering you a rate transfer so you don't pay more for the same cabin category on another cruise date. A 25% increase? If that was true then the other cruises would jump $100/person minimum. I saw no such increase. My February 2nd ten day was canceled. It's almost a year out. It's easy, call the number and book another and get $50 more than you didn't have. If you bought airfare more than 6 months out then thats on you for booking it too far in advance. Does anyone actually read the letter/email NCL sends in its entirety?

BabsinTX Posted March 14, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 14, 2014 Remind me to never book a cruise on the Pearl. Me, too. Our 21-day combined Eastern/Southern Caribbean for January 12-February 2, 2015 was also cancelled. I sent an email to Kevin Sheehan and two NCL corporate folks have called about it. I wasn't ugly, but said they shouldn't book people on a cruise they hope to cancel for a more lucrative music charter. NCL owns Sixthman, which organizes the music charters. So, this isn't out of the blue, like a Super Bowl charter or the Olympics.
