Mahogany Bay Cabanas

Don't think--book it and you will not regret it...

The trip to get to the cabana is nice. Once the chair drops you off you find the "hut" where you rent beach gear, sun beds, and so on. They take your S&S and you get escorted to the cabana.

The beach is private, but people can walk through, and security is on either side and will shoo people out of the area!!!! They certainly did their job when I was there....

They will get the cabana set up--chaise cushions and sun loungers by hammocks are in the cabana. They'll set em up, give you the key and tell you where to find the waiter for food and drink....if you want quiet, it won't be! The beach bar is a very short two minute slow stroll to the bar that plays island music....I loved it....had some great SoCa music playing.

My friend almost didn't get out of the hammocks, not that she couldn't, it was too inviting to stay...Me, well, the double sun bed on the beach was too inviting, but it was around 43C, and got hot after 30-45 minutes...so I went in the water....

Snorkeling--not good....All I saw was one or two really tiny colorful fish.....but it is nice to be in the water...

We got there at around 930 and stayed until 3pm, ship left at 5. We were a little on the WooHoo I need another drink tipsy side...damn the drinks are good......We quickly checked out the shopping and found what we were looking for and headed back to the ship...It was my birthday, so I wasn't tipsy enough, I bought a bottle of bubbly and finished it off at dinner.....

Mahogany Bay scored a 9.5/10 from me. It loses a half point for snorkeling...I wanted to see more fish...I guess in time it will get better...

Thank you for this review. We have a cabana booked for our September cruise. We will be there from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Do know if we can keep the cabana the entire time we are there? The excursion description says 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. It sounds good to just relax and sip on drinks all day. :D

Shawne71,

On our last visit to Mahogany Bay we were the last to leave mainly because a storm forced everyone else back to the ship. We left with under an hour to go before sailaway so I would say you'd be good to after 5PM.

BTW, after the storm it was a beautiful afternoon.

Oh wow, that doesn't sound safe. Do they have lifeguards on duty? I wonder if Carnival has plans to fix the beach.

We were there in October 2014.

We asked. There were no plans at that plans to fix the beach.

The area by the cabanas were roped off from the water's edge because the drop off to the water and under water slope was even steeper in that area.

Because of the strong pull of the water due to the under water slope, water was murky with sand.

Bring water shoes. Small coral rock is also now exposed under the water and painful to step on.

We had looked forward to a day at the beach. We left after 20 minutes due to the poor beach condition.

My take.....Prior to Mahogany Bay being developed we truly enjoyed Isle of

Roatan. The locals sold their wares just off the port and we had an opportunity to see what life on the island was about. We then took a taxi the beach for the day. Now, you're locked into the wonderful world of Carnival with all the money staying in house.

We rented a cabana a few weeks ago and it was pricey $225.00. The furniture in the cabana smelled like mildew and the cushions on everything were in need of replacement. Having the "privacy" was nice but others who didn't purchase the cabana's were constantly walking in front of us by the water and having to be asked to leave the area by security when available. There was one waiter for all of the cabana's. Food and drinks were not timely.

At least on Half Moon Cay, soft drinks, chips, salsa and fruit were included in the price. Last, in that the ship left at 3pm, we had to start back at 2pm which made it a short, expensive, day........
