greatam Posted July 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2005 Here we go again-another way for the airlines to make a few extra bucks. This could get expensive. Here is the blurb from USA Today travel. Northwest increases lowers baggage allowance: Northwest passengers flying on international flights will have to pay a $25 fee for luggage weighing between 50 and 70 pounds, reports the Pioneer Press (free registration) of St. Paul, Minn. Previously, bags up to 70 pounds could be checked on international flights without charge. The lowering of the weight limit brings Northwest’s international policy in line with its rules for domestic flights. Aside from offsetting unspecified higher costs, the paper quotes the airline as saying the different weight rules for domestic and international flights was confusing for customers. Globaliser Posted July 26, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2005 Now that is interesting, as that is a departure from (what I understand to be) an IATA standard. Although it has to be said that that particular standard is itself an exception to the normal weight-based allowance.
