Advance tickets for the Accademia

Does anyone have experience using this museums website to get advance tickets for the Accademia? Rick Steve's 2012 guidebook states there have been glitches in the past. I checked yesterday to book a time in 9/14 and it seemed to work well, but thought I'd check to see if it went well with any fellow cruisers. We plan to go to Florence on our own and this will be the only museum we plan to get advance tickets to. Thanks for any advice!

Pretty sure we used their site to get it. It was down every so often, but once we got in, no issues except figuring it out.

We pre-booked tix at the Accademia for the Leonardo exhibit last October for 10:30 am. It seemed to me that only 30 people were permitted for each 15 minute time slot

We received a voucher via email to be redeemed for tickets at the museum. When we arrived well before 10:30, we were directed to stand either of 2 lines. Well, the one we chose had computer glitches. Tempus was fugiting and I was very concerned as our ticket time approached. Long story short, the time we'd booked was irrelevant, and the number of visitors to the Leonardo exhibit didn't seem to be monitored as long as people had a ticket . We did get into the exhibit after our assigned time.

By all means, do pre-book your admission, but you'll still need to stand in line at the Accademia. And don't be concerned if you aren't exactly on time!

We booked on their web site and were very glad that we did! My husband would never have waited in that line. We went in July and it was very crowded. The line that stretched around the building had barely moved when we came out. We walked right in. Absolutely book ahead of time. Enjoy!

If you are going to several Italian cities then you can book all your admissions via the one tickitaly website.

This site has the added advantage that if the tickets are bookable now then you are billed now and they are e-mailed. In many cases tickets are only sold 3 months in advance. In this case tickitaly waitlist you and the day the bookings open you are booked and your tickets sent . All admissions are date specific and some are both date and time specific .

Via the above mentioned website you can book including these :

Roma - Vatican Museums, Vatican Gardens (escorted), Collosieum & Roman Forum, Villa Borghese .

Firenze - Uffizzi Gallery, Academia, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens.

Pisa - Leaning Tower

Milano - Last Supper

Venezia - Doges Palace, Behind the scenes Doges Palace (escorted),

Peggy Guggenheim Museum .

We booked ours online but by no means were we in any time near our scheduled time. We still waited outside for ~ 30 mins. The tours and seeming "friends" of entrance people were given priority. I would still book in advance but as another poster said, don't worry if you're not on time and don't expect to get in at your designated time.

We pre booked our tickets for our Accademia visit 2 years ago and had no issues with the booking or on the actual day. I would warn anyone booking to make sure that they book the time and day after all other tour arrangements are confirmed.. We changed the date for our day trip to Florence and had to pay all over again for a new booking.

BTW - you are not allowed to take pictures of 'David'.

I wasn't able to sneak any quick shots so the best I got was the copy located in a courtyard at the Accademia.

I was thinking Accademia in Venice when I wrote my earlier post:o!

In Florence, our pre-booked tickets for the Accademia allowed us right in, even though we were early. We did have to search a bit for the sign for those with tickets already. Enjoyed seeing David from all angles, but disappointed we missed "Pink Dave"!
