atate75 Posted March 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2014 A friend of mine said that Carnival drains all of the pools at night and fills them back up in the morning. He said that they use sea water so it is easy for them to do. Is he messing with me? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I'm The Captain Now Posted March 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2014 It's true. I always wondered why the pools were not open 24/7 on a cruise ship - that is why.

Rare LittleMissMagic Posted March 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2014 That would explain why the pools taste like sea water... they definitely aren't normal salt water pools (which don't have a strong smell or taste at all like sea water). And they do put nets over them at night. I've just never been up late enough to see if they drain them!
WLHyatt Posted March 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2014 I wish it was someone messing with you, but they aren't. One thing we used to do on the Conquest was go get pizza late at night and we'd see the crew down there scrubbing the pool and surrounding deck with a sanitizer solution. jym613 Posted March 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Good to know it is sanitized every night.
maldenmusic Posted March 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Yep sea water; you will notice how salty it is if you swallow any
Eng23 Posted March 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) No, your friend is not messing with you. I just got off the Pride yesterday and I can tell you that all the pools and hot tubs were shut down at 10pm every night. They were emptied and cleaned every night. OCruisers Posted March 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 24, 2014 It's good that you did ask here ... never hurts to check. Sometimes people tell us things that are so totally not true. This time, your friend was not messing with you! What he told you is true! LuLu ~~~
chengkp75 Posted March 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Most pools are salt water. Someone said they weren't "normal" sea water, and I guess that this is due to the fact that even sea water pools, when within 12 miles of land, must be in recirculation mode, and therefore chlorinated. Not all lines drain the pools every night, some do it weekly, some twice weekly. Most hot tubs are fresh water, but they are generally drained nightly as well. kajunkroozer Posted March 24, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 24, 2014 The pools on the Sunshine are freshwater, although I never noticed is they were ever drained on our cruise.
CatlinSTJ Posted March 24, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Totally true, it was really weird to see all the pools empty at night on our first cruise, we had no idea what was going on! LOL Next cruise: Carnival Breeze June 2014
