Diver2014 Posted July 6, 2015 #2453 Share Posted July 6, 2015 How exciting! Congrats what a great cruise for a honeymoon :). We'll be disembarking on Dec 19. Will try to leave the ship in tip top shape for you although they will definitely need to restock the martini bar when we leave. We sailed on the SS Norway for our honeymoon, now 20 years later, we'll be on the Escape. Have a great cruise!

FreestyleNovice Posted July 6, 2015 Author #2455 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Have I missed info about when a float out is scheduled, or if it has been scheduled? TBA, but for sure before the Meyer Werft rock concert this fall. :) She will be the backdrop there.
momckb Posted July 6, 2015 #2456 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Hi, I want to check out all the shows on Escape. I know "Dear John Hughes" is a dinner show but, for the other 2, I am wondering if they generally run every night? more than once a night? In general, when is a good time to book dinner? how long should we allow for in the specialty restaurants? We definitely want to check out Cagneys, Le Bistro and Teppanyaki. I realize that nothing is definite since the ship is still being built but, for those who have sailed the Breakaway ships, it will probably be similar? i sailed NCL way before the Freestyle dining was implemented so, could use some advice from recent travelers. Thanks! :)

Thanks! :) The shows on Getaway generally run 3 nights per week, then twice on those nights, like 7pm and 10pm, I think. It will probably be similar. Million Dollar Quartet and After Midnight will share the same theater, so they will be on different nights.

How does the dinner show work on Getaway...3 nights also? Since I'm not in the Haven, my understanding is that bookings open 90 days out. I'm assuming that the show dates/times will show then and...if I book dinner a couple of hours before, I will be ok? I'm thinking 7 pm reservations. Thanks! :) We booked the earliest possible dinner like 5 or 5:30 if we had a show and never had a problem "making it". Usually if tell your server.....nicely please that you are trying to make a 7:30 show or whatever time it is they will speed up service so you can get done in under 2 hours. Usually it takes at least 1.25 to 1.5 hours for dinner. The night we book Teppanyaki its our evening show since that one can run longer waiting on your table to fill up. Our service at Cagney's on Getaway was the worst service we ever had on a ship so if we decide to eat there it will also be on a no show night. Le Bistro had the best service we have ever had we really enjoyed it very much. Having kids, they will be gasp 14 and 12 on Escape we always eat dinner early that way my DD can have dinner, watch the show and then go out with her cruise friends. I'm thinking 7 pm reservations. On the Getaway and Epic, I'm pretty sure the dinner shows were 6 nights of the week. Yes, if you booked at 7pm, you would be fine for a 10pm show. You might not want to book "a couple hours" before though, because if your dinner is a little slow, or if you care about where you seat in the theater is, you could maybe have issues. It just depends. Dinners usually take about 90 minutes, but that depends a lot on you. Many people say specialty dinners last 2 hours, but none of ours has. Yes, you should be able to book 90 days out. I can't even book yet for my Escape transatlantic, so you've got some time to wait.
tarps14 Posted July 6, 2015 #2466 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I live in a neighborhood called Morningside, on the north side of Piedmont Park, so you could call it midtown I guess No way! I know Morningside very well seeing as that's where I grew up! Johnson Road to be exact. Went to Morningside Elementary K-6th grade. Beautiful area and homes. If I could afford the city taxes (and home prices for that matter), I'd move back in a heartbeat. Small world.

CamaCama Posted July 8, 2015 #2470 Share Posted July 8, 2015 I can't tell by the renderings but that main circular area with the restaurants and casino on the next floor... is that like the main lobby area? Does it stretch out more and include more restaurants and shops? Is it anything like the promenade on the newer RCI ships or no?
sunnydaygirl Posted July 8, 2015 #2471 Share Posted July 8, 2015 I'm really getting excited( and a little jealous) of all you lucky people booked on the maiden voyage. It goes without saying that you all better come back here with pictures and stories. No, really, please satisfy our burning curiosity about all "things" Escape. There can not be "too many" pictures and or food porn, shared.
tarps14 Posted July 8, 2015 #2472 Share Posted July 8, 2015 I can't tell by the renderings but that main circular area with the restaurants and casino on the next floor... is that like the main lobby area? Does it stretch out more and include more restaurants and shops? Is it anything like the promenade on the newer RCI ships or no? NCL's bigger ships don't have that multi story, wide open, ship long promenade like the Royal ships do. The circular area you refer to is a multi story open staircase. It's probably about 50 ft (?) across and spans three decks, 6, 7, and 8. There is also another similar area where the guest relations desk is on deck 6 and O'Sheehans on 7. This is referred to as the "atrium". This area is also where the huge video screen is located on deck 6. The ship, imo, that comes closest to the Royal C. ships would probably be the Epic. I remember getting off the forward elevators for the first time on deck 6 and being able to see almost to the other end of the ship. Granted it's only two decks high though. The Away class of ship doesn't have that effect, however, it still has never felt closed in to me.
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted July 8, 2015 #2473 Share Posted July 8, 2015 My impression of the "-away" ships as well as the Escape is that the forward atrium is used for many activities that normally take place in the secondary large lounges on other ships. Is this an accurate assessment? Outside of the theater there seems to only be a number of smaller bars/lounges on the Escape for such a large passenger compliment - District brew house, 5 O'Clock Somewhere, Comedy club and Skyline plus the areas that are just straightforward bars.
