Bocagirl1 Posted March 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2014 Hi we are cruising from Sydney on March 27th next year. Please can anyone advise what weather will be like at that time of year in Sydney and then cruising up the East coast stopping in Brisbane and Airlie Beach? paul929207 Posted March 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2014 You may want to check the current weather there. It is almost exactly a year until your cruise
timetravler Posted March 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2014 I cruised in April in Australia and it was perfect fall weather. No rain and not cold, but I wore a sweater before the cruise at night.
joybook Posted March 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2014 The weather in Sydney will be starting to cool down but still very comfortable in the mid 20s celsius. The further north you go the hotter it will be - up to the high 20s c to low 30s c. However from Sydney up the north coast to Cairns in Qld it can be quite wet at this time of the year - moreso in Queensland than NSW. We, and Qld have been having a fair bit of rain over recent weeks and this is not altogether unusual for this time of the year. Given that, it is a pretty good time to travel as it is unlikely you will get the extremely hot weather. Have a great cruise.:)
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted March 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2014 It's relatively unseasonal to have a lot of rain in late March. I'd say you'll have warm weather and maybe an odd shower. Cyclones are generally over by early March. Hope you enjoy our "Sunshine State (Queensland)" and your cruise.
Baggywrinkle99 Posted March 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2014 March/April is probably the best time to visit IMO. The weather is usually pretty settled and the sometimes extreme heat and humidity of summer is over but it's still very pleasant (20s and 30s Celsius); cooler at night. Cyclone season is over too. Rare aussielozzie18 Posted March 31, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Nice time weatherwise to spend in Sydney - if you have a few spare days beforehand. In Sydney - daytime should be fine and sunny. Could still be quite warm but not hot. Nights and early mornings a little cooler.
kuldalai Posted March 31, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2014 March is Autumn in Australia . Melbourne and Sydney typically 20 - 25 C up to 30, in Queensland 25 - 30 as further North . Great time to visit downunder.
Plant Posted April 1, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2014 Since we're discussing weather, what's it like in September and October in Sydney and Brisbane? Is it about the same in New Zealand? Will we need a light or a heavy jacket? Or none at all? Thanks so much,

Can be cool in Sept (you will need a light jacket late Sept) but also can be quite hot in Oct. We had very hot temps and terrible bushfires in the Blue Moutains in October last year. Will we need a light or a heavy jacket? Or none at all? Thanks so much, This is Spring in Australia. Sydney and Brisbane temps are quite different to those in New Zealand and again there is a difference between north and south islands of NZ. Sydney often has a spurt of very warm September weather up to 30c but more often it is mid 20c. October is slightly warmer - high 20c. Brisbane is a few degrees warmer and slightly more humid but still pleasant. New Zealand's south island will be markedly cooler in spring and still has snow. Doesn't get warm until January. Check out some of the world maps and you will understand why NZ is cooler.
Baggywrinkle99 Posted April 1, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 1, 2014 Sept/Oct is a good time for snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef as there are fewer stingers to share the experience with!

cassamanda Posted April 4, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 4, 2014 Thanks so much for your info! I think I'll bring a light jacket and maybe a sweatshirt, just in case :). Spot on. Probably take a light weight waterproof jacket with hood, especially if sailing through Milford Sound in NZ. Many skippers put the ship right under a waterfall for the enjoyment of those standing on the bow:D
ROCruiser Posted April 5, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 5, 2014 Just did the NZ cruise out of Sydney. We were blessed with great weather all the way. Not too hot, not too cold, just right for us. It was cold at the sounds though, make sure you bring enough layers to keep warm.
