Civitavecchia Embarkation Strategies

The family is taking one of the 7-night Liberty of the Seas cruises this summer that originates in Barcelona but we are actually boarding in Rome and continuing for the seven nights and disembarking from Rome the following week.

My question is, how does embarkation work on one of these cruises (scheduled departure time from Civitaveccha is 7pm). What time can we board, what time do we need to be at the port, what other concerns are there when you join a cruise in the middle of the itinerary? We have not done one of these types of cruises before and only have experience with the Caribbean type cruises where everyone gets on and gets off at the same port.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Boarding will be according to RCI policies and procedures, so checking the RCI board, here:

would be beneficial. When you can start boarding is up to RCI policy and procedure. All aboard will likely be about 90 minutes prior to sailing.

This sounds like a cruise that goes BCN to Rome, or reverse. You are just staying on for the round trip, beginning and ending in Rome.

Hi

we did something similar 2 years ago on the LOTS joining the cruise in Toulon. When the pick ups were Barcelona and Toulon

We found the experience very good we were on the ship by 1130am, a very quick check-in as not a lot of people were getting on

Muster was quick and relatively painless 15 minutes all done in one of the lounges about 200 of us mainly French with a few British and a couple of other nationalities

We did not have a welcome aboard show or sail away party as we boarded 1 day after Barcelona

We did have a farewell the day before Barcelona and welcome aboard shows plus sail away party when leaving Barcelona

This was our first cruise experience so we were unsure what to expect so not doing things the traditional way was not really a problem for us, if you are flexible and not to much of a traditionalist as far as having everything in a set order it could work for you.

There were a few minor issues

1)We got off in Barcelona for a walk round when we went back we were asked to join the cue with the embarking passengers a quick word with a supervisor and we bypassed check in and straight on the ship

2)We were told by guest relations we could not go to our room until 1pm in Barcelona our room steward had a word with security and they let us through to our rooms no problem

3)Our photos disappeared when we got to Barcelona a quick word with the photo staff and we had all our prints on a disk

When we did this RCI was just coming to grips with "inter-porting" I would hope they have got things running smoothly now

Anything else just ask

regards

Damon
