Which ships? Obviously that affects the answers.

We have sailed on RCCL maybe 6 or 7 times and only once on Norwegian, but that was recent (last summer on Epic out of Rome.) I really think I would give RCCL the nod in all categories - especially main dining room food as well as the ship. In our case, the NCL Epic had the only dates that worked for us out of Rome, and the price was very reasonable - and of course we had a great time on the Epic too. No real complaints, but just not quite as nice. If price were the same, I would go RCCL.

These comparison questions are asked over & over.

Type "NCL" into the Royal Caribbean search function.

It will bring up hundreds threads of whatever your looking for.

Or maybe just read the member reviews of the ship you want to cruise on..

We have cruised 3 times on NCL, and 4 times on RCCI. We've always enjoyed all of our cruises; on NCL, we've cruised on the Norway, the Star, and the Breakaway. On RCCI, we've cruised on the Freedom of the Seas, Majesty of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, and the Independence of the Seas. As far as the dining goes, we had always been happy with our service as well as the food, with the exception of the Breakaway, which we sailed this past October, 2013. We found the food to be disappointing; the same with the service. We felt that the ship was understaffed.

We sailed on the Independence of the Seas this past March and couldn't have been happier...at last, I was able to have escargot in the main dining room (every night!!) Staff was wonderful.

We have stayed in balcony staterooms & outside staterooms; NCL doesn't have a couch in the outside staterooms; RCCI does. Balcony rooms on both lines seem comparable.

We have enjoyed the entertainment on both lines. The Independence of the Seas has an ice skating rink onboard, and the performance of the skaters was fantastic.

I found the casinos on the NCL Star & Breakaway to be extremely smoky; same with the RCCI Independence.

We've chosen our cruises by the cruise line destination, by our travel companions, etc. Whatever cruise line you decide to go with, have a great time!!!

Hands down....Royal Caribbean..there is no comparison. Sailed on Norwegian twice and Royal Caribbean 6/7 Times. Food, entertainment, quality of ship, staff, etc. Honestly....Carnival is your best bet. Always swore upon Royal Caribbean however they are outpricing themselves. Seven cruises and counting on Carnival now.

Unfortunately it has been 2 1/2 years since we have been on Norwegian Dawn and Royal just last Dec. so I am sure things could have changed, but to be honest back then I was about scared away from NCL from what I had read! Our opinion at the time was that food wise it pretty much compared to RCI (they had a pretzel bread my young adult kids loved my boy gained 8# that cruise!) entertainment wasn't too bad our families biggest complaint was they got bored! No mini-golf, dodge ball, flow riders etc. We were actually booked on the Epic for Sept and cancelled it after reading reviews of separate shower and toilet with frosted glass wall you could see the silhouette of the person through! Having 2 adult children sharing the room with us figured we might have a problem!

We have been on RCCL 3 times and NCL twice. My biggest gripe about NCL vs RCCL is that NCL only has outdoor pool and hot tubs for most customers. We love the Solarium that all the RCCL ships we have been on have had, with their climate controlled pool and hot tub and loungers (when it's either too cold or too hot or just raining)

One of the main differences between NCL & RCCL is that NCL offers 'freestyle dining' on all of their ships. They have no set dining times. RCCL offers my time dining as well as set dining times on all of their ships except for on Quantum. On Quantum, they will not have any set dining times, and everything will be dynamic dining, meaning you can go to dinner whenever you want. I also noticed that the dress code on NCL seems to be more causal than on RCCL, however there are people who will dress up regardless.

Just off RCI's Navigator and really enjoyed it. Have sailed NCL 4x in the past few years. Entire crew was wonderful- met 1 rude security out of hundreds of happy, smiling, service oriented individuals (do you know how hard that is to keep up?) RCI Main Dining was much better- food quality, service and desserts. Cabin was bigger but we had a handicapped room. RCI's Flowrider is AWESOME!! Rock wall/mini golf/ice rink was fun. Ship was beautiful. Inside Promenade and art work everywhere was classy. Ice rink show is extremely well done but the only decent show we saw (really- a ballroom dance show and an Elton John night as the major entertainment- weak!)

NCL has a bit more energy, better kids area/staff/activities, fun pool games. The nightly entertainment was better and the show staff was more talented. Overall crew was fine but not as friendly as RCI.

Both lines have been fun and worth it every time. Celebrity and Carnival are also worth trying. Every cruise is what you make of it.

gioia...as I posted yesterday, we went on a RCCI cruise last month. Loved everything about the Independence of the Seas.

We cruised NCL in October, six months ago. Sorry you're mad about this, but I feel that one month and six months is pretty recent....????? just sayin...
