A few specific booking on board questions.

We will be taking another cruise soon on Celebrity. We also plan to cruise regularly and will stick with Celebrity until we reach elite in a year or so unless a real great bargain on another comes up.

We do not really care about cabin location or class as we just try to take advantage of the best bargains/perks/class etc and as we are semi retired can be flexible with our dates. We are from Sydney so unless the cruise is out of Australia we also try to tie in multiple cruises if we can to get the most bang for buck out of our airfare costs.

Our projected plans are for an NZ cruise in Dec this year and then a series of cruises (Shanghai-Vancouver, Alaska Nth and Sth bound on Millennium) in April-May next year.

What will be the advantage to us if we book on board our NZ cruise?

Will we be able to take advantage of any price drops etc once this happens?

Should we then transfer the booking to a TA?

What will be the difference between booking the specific cruise or just non specific future cruises?

Thanks in advance. This site helped us so much on our previous(1st) set of cruises.

I feel the prices and OBC are much better onboard. If your price drops before final payment, you should be able to get the price drop. Again, IMHO, I feel it is better to book a specific cruise, but some would not agree. Transferring to a TA is what I do in order to get more OBC. The one I use follows Celebrity and doesn't charge for cancelations before final payment. If you have a good TA, that relationship can pay off in many ways! Much of this depends on you and your comfort level. They will explain the different bookings onboard to you.

It is a good idea to book onboard for a number of reasons as the agents will be able to show you virtually any information you might need and you can see it for yourself. Another perk to booking onboard is the ability to pay a reduced deposit which can come in handy if booking several cruises at once unless finances are not an issue. Transferring your onboard bookings to a TA is a good idea to take advantage of perks they might provide such as OBC or even pre-paid gratuities. It certainly paid off for our most recent cruise as we ended up with an additional perk I do not believe we should have had. We got a free classic beverage package and OBC from Celebrity and our travel agency prepaid our gratuities for us.
