rene194215 Posted April 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Ok to start, my mom got an offer for a free cabin and actually convinced my dad to go. Travel had to be done by end of May. So they chose a 8 night on the Breeze leaving May 10th. Thats wonderful in my opinion since they do not travel much. Not becasue they cannot, but becasue my dad perfers to relax at home. Next part, my parents are going to be celebrating thier 45th wedding anniversary in July. They have decided that this cruise is for them to celebrate. A little early I know. My questions are- 1. Would it be tacky to have thier room decorated since its almost 2 months before? 2. Should I get a cake for them for dinner one night? 3. Should I arrange something in their room such as flowers or a bottle of champagne and strawberries? 4. Should I put on thier booking that they are celebrating thier anniversary? Your thoughts, comments, suggestions? Oh here is the other kicker, no one else knows in the family except me becasue I helped plan this. So once they tell my brother and sister (I am thinking Easter sunday?) they may want to do something as well.... We are already throwing ideas around for their 50th. Super excited about that!!!!!!! For my 35th last year we did a cruise with my sister & brother-in-law in the Haven Suites on Epic. When we arrived our room had a lovely cake & flowers which my Sister had ordered b/4 the cruise. On the day of our Anniversary the room steward decorated our bedroom with streamers & balloons. They also left chocolate covered strawberries & canape's for us to enjoy. Go for it! If your sibling inquire just have them chip in for a couples spa treatment, a nice bottle of champagne or a specialty dinner. Congrat's to your parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maldenmusic Posted April 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2014 I'd go ahead and do the celebration. They may never get to take another cruise and this would make it very special in my opinion.
reerun25 Posted April 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2014 If they decided that the cruise is for them to celebrate, then I would do everything you would have done if it were the real date in July. If they are celebrating, then help them feel special and go all out!
mommy2jack Posted April 10, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Absolutely celebrate! Who cares if it's 2 months early! My DH and I will be married for 10 years in August but we're celebrating it on our cruise in May. We don't buy each other gifts in lue of our yearly vacations so our vacations are always our celebrations. 45 years is big milestone, so I say go all out! :D Congrats to them!! woodey Posted April 10, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2014 It all depends on if they would appreciate the gifts... myself I would not...I would rather my kids spend the money on themselves or the grandkids.... I think what you want to do is great, but a simple card and a I am thinking of you is all I would need with that said if they would appreciate it ..then by all means make it as special as you can...:)
MEOWSMURPHY Posted April 10, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2014 You are so thoughtful and if your Mom said this will be their anniversary celebration then "make it a GREAT celebration by having their room decorated and ordering a cake to be delivered to their table in the MDR and having a bouquet of flowers in their cabin upon arrival...they will remember this and your thoughtfulness every time they look at their cruise pictures...another thought is to prepay for them to have an "anniversary picture" done on elegant night...it would be a nice reminder of their 45th.. ps...we will be celebrating our 50th on a cruise to Hawaii in 2 years...could you but a bug in our kids ears...LOLOLOL:D
cruizinisthebest Posted April 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2014 45 years...what a month or two up against that! Gone and give them the works. That's wonderful! My parents were married 48 years before he passed away. Very nice of you to be so thoughtful. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk

Delta Dear Posted April 10, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Another ABSOLUTELY, go for all of it and then some. Give them a gift card(s) for a photo ($15.00 credit, I think,) The photo prices are high and those of us of the post war generation balk at paying so much for things. They might think that cruise photos are too expensive and might not want to splurge on those. With a gift card(s) they will have some lasting memories. If your siblings want to do something, suggest this to them.
sjcruiser Posted April 10, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 10, 2014 We had been planning moms 65th birthday (birthday is in July) cruise for over a year settling on a cruise in August, which we booked. While doing some research on Carnival website, we find out she's eligible for a free cruise that has to be taken by the end of June (to late to change plans, flights, etc., and was the only time that fit everyone's schedule). We booked a cruise the last week of June, which comes back 1 day before her actual birthday in July, so we'll decorate the cabins in both cruises, and order cakes for both cruises. faroozi Posted April 10, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 10, 2014 We celebrated our ten year in March, but it isn't til next month. We put that we were celebrating on our reservation and the wait staff in the MDR gave us cake and sang to us the first formal night.

funfamilyof6 Posted April 11, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 11, 2014 Your ideas are great, it doesn't matter that their anniversary is a couple of months away! We decided to celebrate my husband's parents anniversary for their 40th instead of waiting for their 50th (FIL had congenital heart issue). Needless to say, my FIL didn't make it to their 50th and my MIL still talks about how happy she was that she has so many great memories from her 40th! ;)
rene194215 Posted April 16, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted April 16, 2014 Thank you everyone!!! I talked with my parents this past weekend and they both agreed that they need to tell my brother and sister soon (I am horrible at keeping a secret so my sister knows :o I guess my brother mentioned that on mothers day he was going to work till a certain time and he would come straight to my parents house:eek: I will be the only one there! But they do not want to tell them at Easter as there will be other family members there and they just want to let us kids know. I know for sure I will decorate the room. Once they tell my brother and sister, I will see what they would want to do and go from there! I need to explain the camera to my dad again because he is not a camera person and my mom is worse! In Vegas last year he thought he took all these pictures, but only too like 60. With the beautiful ports they are going to and the ship itself, I want them to have a wonderful memory though the pictures. I hope to create an album for them... uncleg Posted April 16, 2014 #18 Share Posted April 16, 2014 My parents like to travel, so for my Dad's retirement celebration they booked their dream cruise to Hawaii, I had strawberries and bottle of Champagne waiting in their cabin when they arrived, my brother and I both put cash on their sign and sail card, and because the time frame they were gone also fell on my Moms Birthday I ordered a cake sent to MDR on night of her Birthday from their the 6 year old granddaughter. They were very surprised. This year they are off to the Mediterranean to celebrate 50 years of marriage, we have go to get somethings in order to make their trip more special. rene194215 Posted April 16, 2014 Author #21 Share Posted April 16, 2014 A little hijack to the thread, but how did they get a free cruise? I thought it had something to do with the 1 cruise my mom had taken and the time half of it in the casino. But from what I understand now, people were picked at random to recieve these cruises.. From my research, some have not cruised in a while, some cruise a lot. Even underage past guests recieved the offers. Always sign into your account on carnival.com with your VIFP number to see if you have any offers. For my parents it worked out amazing! They upgraded to a balcony and still paid less for 2 then it would cost 1 person double occupancy for a 7 night carribean cruise in Sept- Hurricane season!
