MawganTr Posted June 4, 2014 #51 Share Posted June 4, 2014 I guess they'll have to source special size bedding for such an unusual size. It does seem a waste to have the rooms there but not use them for 6 months. Can't wait to see pictures of how they've slotted them in / changed the casino. Rare rafinmd Posted June 4, 2014 #52 Share Posted June 4, 2014 I would guess that in the drydock they "roughed out" the new cabins but that they will be finishing them at sea. Six months seems kind of long for that but perhaps also there were some special order parts that will be delayed. Just a guess. Roy
transatlantic fan Posted June 5, 2014 #53 Share Posted June 5, 2014 I am onboard and can confirm the casino bar has gone and new 39 or 40 inch tv's are now on the wall in front of the beds.
Iceman's Mum Posted June 8, 2014 #54 Share Posted June 8, 2014 I am onboard and can confirm the casino bar has gone and new 39 or 40 inch tv's are now on the wall in front of the beds. OH!! We were on board and had NO flat screen TV on the wall - just a TV standing on top of the fridge! We were in 6001 all the way forward. Have to say that this actually was a very nice cabin and extremely quiet. Nice views too!! As first time on QE, cannot comment on changes although we understand that one difference is that waiters bring tea and coffee to the table in the Lido Restaurant. That was quite nice and saved you from getting hot drinks spilt on you by other guests (yes, has happened in the past!). Alison & Jack

Dancer Bob Posted June 8, 2014 #56 Share Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) I haven't seen any photo of the new single yet. From the "artist's impression", it looks like the dimensions are 8' x 20'. I calculate the bed is going to take up a lot more space than is shown, and probably the furniture too. If it's properly planned I don't think it will be too bad, but I've been in the NCL Epic studios, about the same size and not terribly crowded, but poorly organised. The prices that have been mentioned on other threads are utterly outrageous. Edited June 8, 2014 by Dancer Bob

Six months seems kind of long for that but perhaps also there were some special order parts that will be delayed. Just a guess. Roy these cabins are retro fitted and IMO they are taking that extended period to sort out the problems they may well have with them. On Cunards sister line P&O they retro fitted single cabins in a similar area on Ventura and IMO for many months after they were not fit for purpose. They may well not be fixed yet!. The problem was the incessant squeeking, creaking and other noises in the walls and ceilings when the ship was underway. I booked such a cabin and on the first night sleep was impossible because of an incessant high pitched squeek in the ceiling. They moved me without any argument next morning. Maybe they are going to make sure the cabins are right before allowing occupation and therefore avoiding tha avalanche of complaints. Why so long to fix? They will need a team of fixers aboard who will trace and eliminate every noise. They have to do this in all sea states so they hope long period includes every sort of sea from a flat calm to severe storm. Of course I could be completely wrong :o;)
alibabacruisers Posted June 8, 2014 #58 Share Posted June 8, 2014 I can't wait to see actual pictures! It sounds good that the TV's be on the wall and not taking up room on the desk. The window looks a good size too and I wonder how nice the view will be? I think we rarely even went into the casino on QE last time, so next year will have to check it out. I tried to do a dummy booking for some 2015 cruises (after I figured out to enter 1 as number of passenger...duh) and I finally saw what the solo passengers have to deal with...pricing! For the solo cruisers out there who have tried to book, is booking these new cabins over regular cabins a better deal for you? Just wondering.

Alison & Jack[/quote'] Hi Alison & Jack My wife and I are booked into stateroom 6001 on Queen Elizabeth for a cruise next month and we are wondering if you can confirm if you can go onto the small deck area in front of the staterooms 6001 & 6002. Also, in your opinion, if you were offered a free upgrade to a balcony stateroom, would you prefer stateroom 6001 or would you opt for the balcony? We would appreciate any advice you can offer. Many thanks, Aubrey & Eileen

Reading Reports on stateroom 6001/6002 some state that you can hear the Bulbous Bow crashing in rough weather. Well this is an occurrence with most ships in rough weather when your up front. I personally enjoy the sound and movement Always a gamble if you tick the upgrade box as sometimes its a downgrade ! This photo is taken from deck 5 on the QV looking up at that area on decks 6 and 7. Can you go out there any time or just on special occasions such as this when all 3 Queens were leaving Southampton? Rare photosg Posted August 12, 2014 #63 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Since there doesn't seem to be an updated deck plan available online I thought I would share with you a photo I took while I was on QE last week. http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showphoto.php?photo=29230 and http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/showphoto.php?photo=29229 hope this answers some of your single cabin position questions. Also, I couldn't resist a peek into the corridor where the new cabins are and they seem to be already occupied with passengers coming out of them as well as uniformed attendants in the corridor. (hope this works. this is my very first CC forum post!)
