Hello All.

Trying to decide on an excursion while in Skagway. We were going to do the White Pass Scenic Railroad tour, but saw another one called Up the Summit and that one looks good too.On the Up the Summit they stop and let you out. Can anyone tell me the difference and if you think one is better than the other.

As always thanks for all the input and help. Could not have planned this cruise without this site and all the wonderful people on it.

There are several options, that are available. I can not tell from your description? There will be round trip train- which is great for rail fans and those with the interest in scenery and superior scenery. There are the short, one way summit/Fraser train trips and then the short return to Skagway via the Klondike Highway, OK, with a few stops. You do NOT get into the Yukon. More one way train Fraser/White Pass, combo Klondike Highway trips that go to Emerald Lake. Some may include Caribou Crossing as a stop.

Fiinally there will be the Lake Bennett train which is the most scenic option. Loaded with history, a must for rail and history fans. Other direction is the same as above, on the Klondike Highway to/from Emerald Lake. This is NOT available for some itineraries.

With ANY selection be certain to KNOW what sides to sit on. Especially with one way options, you are going to want to be on the left side of the train, leaving Skagway. Right side of highway travel. Going toward Skagway, right side of train, left side of van/bus.

We are going on the White Pass Summit Rail & Bus Excursion,(3.5 hours), depart by bus, return by train. On which side should we sit ?

Thank you :)
