gcaskew Posted April 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2014 We normally buy my wife's jewelry at Imperial in St. Thomas, but this cruise is going to the western side. I would like to surprise her for her 50th birthday with something nice. I already have us an aft wrap balcony... :D Is there a really good jewelry store in the Cayman's, that is both cheap and trust worthy? Many thanks Carlton
cb at sea Posted April 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2014 Nothing is "cheap" in GC...it's a VERY expensive place!! You will probably get a better deal at home than you will in Grand Cayman.
Life is Good Cruising Posted April 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2014 Totally agree with cb, everything is very expensive in Grand Cayman.
Grannycb Posted April 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2014 DH bought me a lovely pearl and diamond ring the first time we were in Grand Cayman. The same ring was $100 less at our hometown department store. It would have been less if it had been on sale. Having said that, the ring we overpaid for has good vacation memories attached to it. Is that worth the extra cost?

Might just do wait and look in Coz...
toothfary7 Posted April 17, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2014 I agree with GC being pricey. Plus if you charge it you might get hit with an international conversion fee on your CC. Maybe buy something nice at home and bring it with you? It would still be special presenting it to her on the cruise in a special way. I'm jealous, wishesd my husband thought like you! Duanerice1 Posted April 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2014 Wait for Cozumel, much cheaper although not as good as it once was. We always buy something but it has to be unique, something we wouldn't buy at home. Diamonds and other stones we'll buy at home.
TurtleTagger Posted April 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2014 (edited) No real deals to be found here. If you want something special to remember the visit, look for Caymanite jewelry or something made from Black Coral. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caymanite http://launasjewelry.ky/ http://www.handmade.com.ky/index.htm http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147365-d1021937-Reviews-Black_Coral_Clinic-Grand_Cayman_Cayman_Islands.html Edited April 20, 2014 by TurtleTagger
irishgirl Posted April 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2014 I have found good deals at Silver City. That's the only place I've found any good deals in GC.
Michael P Posted April 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2014 Personally, if I were going to be spending a couple of thousand bucks on a ring or necklace or something for DW, I would never, ever buy while at a cruise port in the Caribbean, (especially when we live about a 15 minute walk away from the Diamond District here in NYC). But regardless of where you are in the States, you could do much, much better at home, with more options and higher quality. As far as the sentimentality factor goes, ehh, that's a personal call, but anything can serve as a nice momento. If you buy, you know the saying, just beware.
