MeHeartCruising Posted April 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) 2 cruises on NCL on NCL Epic and both times they find excuses to avoid the OBC. Is there a agency to file a complaint. The executive office does not help? Ray What is the nature of your complaint? The terms of the shareholder benefit are spelled out on the "For Investors" page of the NCL website. In particular, here is the "fine print" that I found easily: "*Benefit is non-transferable and not available to employees, agents of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. or its subsidiaries and affiliates, travel agents and tour operators. Benefit is not combinable with any other offer. Shareholders have the option to choose between the shareholder benefit or the other offer. The Shareholder must own the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. stock at time of sailing. Onboard credit is calculated in US dollars and is not redeemable for cash. Certificate value credited to onboard account at time of sailing and may not be used towards on board service charges or pre-purchased activities. Any unused credit shall be forfeited. Credit is applied on a per stateroom basis; double occupancy. Single guests paying 200% of applicable fare shall receive full value of certificate. Only one shareholder credit per stateroom. Only one credit per shareholder on any one sailing. If you are requesting shareholder onboard credit for two or more separate cabins and shares are held jointly, a minimum of 100 shares per cabin booked must be held. Other terms and conditions may apply." And here is a link to the benefit's FAQ document: http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/ABEA-5WOY6H/3094586596x0x681828/4AF17A4F-D574-4094-BDE8-5AD5FA288377/blankPDF.pdf Edited April 15, 2014 by MeHeartCruising

BuffetPantsPls Posted April 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2014 It's a fun little perk but probably one of the worst unless you enjoy always sailing during high times and not asking for any other discounts available. http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/ABEA-5WOY6H/3094777256x0x681828/4AF17A4F-D574-4094-BDE8-5AD5FA288377/blankPDF.pdf it's fairly straight forward, you fill out a form at least 15 days prior to sailing and fax / email them proof that you have at least 100 shares. and in big bold letters on the faq Can this benefit be combined with other offers or onboard credits? This exclusive shareholder benefit offer is not combinable with any other offer. The benefit is NOT available to company employees, travel agents, tour conductors and/or others utilizing complimentary or reduced rate cruise fares. Coastalbreezes Posted April 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2014 I am also a shareholder. For my upcoming cruise, I tried to get my OBC and was told that because I had a promotional booking, I could not get it. I wrote back to them with a list of about 10 different promos NCL offers (e.g., upgrade offers, Lattitudes offers, Casinos at Sea offers, Kids Sail free promos, free dining, etc.). I said in my email "by the time you cross off everyone who booked through some kind of promo offer, the actual list of shareholders who booked without some kind of promo must be very, very small!" Their response was to thank me for my feedback and my comments would be forwarded to the team for future consideration. I agree with the OP; it's a bit of a BS perk. Coastalbreezes Posted April 15, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 15, 2014 Even if that's all true, OBC isn't a good primary reason for owning stock. Agreed. It's just a nice -- small, but nice -- perk of ownership that is virtually unattainable unless you book without a promotion. Tracy
newmexicoNita Posted April 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2014 Even if that's all true, OBC isn't a good primary reason for owning stock. I was thinking the exact same thing: ok, you buy a min of 100 shares, the going price at the time, we will say is $30.00. That is a $3,000 investment, for a lousy $100 OBC once or twice a year; doesn't sound to me like very good return on your money. Heck, when we bough our 100 shares I never thought about shareholders perks. That is why, I just screwed up. I waiting until 2 weeks, not 15 days before sailing to fax my info to them. That was yesterday, I am not expecting to get my OBC this time. I can hope to but don't think we will. We do have an OBC credit from our TA which should not affect our shareholdes OBC. If we get it, I all the better, if not, oh well!!!!
mpk218 Posted April 15, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 15, 2014 Lets leave it as is , a lousy perk . And an oxymoron . A perk would be defined as some form of benefit. :p Oh well , next

Joken35 Posted April 15, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 15, 2014 I spoke with a rep. Last week and was told that they would give us 2 dinners in Cagney's and a bottle of wine! While it may not equal $100, I was not giving up my OBC from the TA and 120 from NCL
kylenyc Posted April 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Three cruises in a row as a shareholder and I've gotten the OBC every time. Once they gave it to me flat out no question. Twice there was an issue they called me, explained the problem with combining offers, and offered me dinner at a specialty restaurant and wine in lieu of the credit. Instead I asked them remove the offer valued less than $100 and so I could take the $100 OBC instead because I'd rather have the credit instead of say wine and strawberries. I've had nothing but a positive experience. The shareholder benefit is recent offering from NCL. They only launched their stock a year ago. I'm hopeful it's just growing pains and that the benefit will improve over time. The benefit isn't for everyone but I typically book cabins that rarely get $100 OBC, and so the shareholder benefit makes sense. $100 x 3 cruises / $3000 per 100 shares of NCLH nets a 10 percent return. Even if that's all true, OBC isn't a good primary reason for owning stock. This. I spoke with a rep. Last week and was told that they would give us 2 dinners in Cagney's and a bottle of wine! While it may not equal $100, I was not giving up my OBC from the TA and 120 from NCL Glad to hear they are still doing the same and consistent with my experience. Shareholder benefit has been consistently offering something each time. I'm guessing they are making judgement call based on how much stock the passenger owns, their cruise history, and passenger attitude. The executive office does not help? Ray Scam? What reason did NCL give for not paying it. It is totally irresponsible to making a negative accusation such as this without additional explanation. There are many VALID reasons to not get the perk mention. Please explain.

While it may not equal $100, I was not giving up my OBC from the TA and 120 from NCL I am going to call them either Friday or Monday. I have heard something similar. Actually dinner in CAgney's with wine is almost $100.00.

swedish weave Posted April 17, 2014 #22 Share Posted April 17, 2014 I eliminated the problem of OBC by not buying the stock. I like NCL, but it didn't seem like a good investment for me -- with or without the OBC question. http://seekingalpha.com/article/1634412-norwegian-cruise-ships-are-drowning-in-debt-save-yourself
