dorisis Posted April 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic! I like the view while going thru the locks. Best seen from a forward position on deck.
Velvetwater Posted April 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Hello. This is our very first time through the Canal and only our 2nd cruise. Not sure what to expect for weather and not sure what to pack!! Any ideas?? Thanx I am exactly in the same position except my PC is with Carnival in August! What a fabulous way to do our 2nd cruise right? :) I have been told the weather is often hot/humid for a good chunk of the year with possible showers. So far I have gathered/thought about: 1) A lightweight raincoat that fits into a very small bag 2) light clothing like kaftan tops etc (covered up due to heat and light due to humidity) 3) Various bug repellents and pills (as w ehave southern ports) 4) Diaroalite and hydration gel/sugar packs for the sweltering heat and for any tummy upsets 5) A large floppy hat 6) Muchos swimwear and high factor sun cream 7)Closed toe pump/sandals for going ashore 8) All the usual warm cruise day clothes and dressy things for the evenings 9)An underwater camera 10) A battery operated handheld fan Also try you roll call the Panama Canal board...helpful folk there: http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=89 Edited April 21, 2014 by Velvetwater
BillB48 Posted April 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2014 I guess you are coming from California to FL on your Canal transit. If that the case the only "cool" weather would be in the Southern Cal area, other than that it is pretty much tropical for the stops in Mexico and the rest of Central America. This just in... the weather report for the Canal... partly cloudy skies and scattered showers, highs rarely above 90 and hardly ever below 75. This forecast is good year round, the only changes are possibly mostly cloudy or widely scattered. For the folks that like Centigrade, Google can figure that out:D! Seriously, just think Florida weather and you will have a good idea of what to expect. I also think it is safe to say that anyone coming from Vancouver Island will find the weather on the humid side.
