Good question....I saw that, too, on the AIS site, and on the Gem's bridge webcam. Could be a medevac, hope all is well....

Guess it will soon be on the harbor cam again, if it is coming all the way back....

Ditto, hope all is ok... will soon know I guess.

Radio says NYFD Fireboat will take female passenger off near Stapleton (Staten Island), utilizing the tender platform....says she is suffering an eye injury, not life threatening, but eye threatening....

Oh dear, that can be dangerous, hope her sight can be saved, a poke in the eye perhaps, all the excitement... hope she's ok!!

Live open radio traffic between NCL Gem & FDNY Marine unit (FF2) can be heard at the moment, it's a medical but not life-threatening, but they are still doing medivac by bring responding unit starboard side off SI's Stapleton anchorage. NYPD marine launch #4 has arrived on scene off the ship's bow - std. VHF radio Ch. 6 and 13 ahead of FDNY - approaching VZ Bridge & the ship's tendering platform will be lowered to transfer the female patient similar to tendering (once they turned off the busy shipping channel into the SI Navy pier area)

Also, picking up info off my scanner radio & communications, handled very professional, calm & ship's doctor on the bridge speaking with first responder. Should be wrapped up in next 30 mins. or so and then the GEM can resume her vovage back out to San Juan, PR - might have to speed up a little to make up for lost time.

P.S. Projectile injury to the eye with hemorrhaging so looks like patient will most likely be taken to SI University Hospital to be checked out (in case of injuries to the brain) - ship's Captain has visual of the ambulance waiting at the pier, minor issues as to whether NYPD marine boat OR FDNY marine boat is transfering the patient to land.

Very dramatic....seems like a "turf war" between NYFD and NYPD as to who is going to transport the passenger.....the pilot is handling it all very calmly and professionally, looks like they are all finally 'on the same page'....

NYPD wants to get ahead of FDNY with 2 officers boarding the ship to take a report (investigate ?) and FDNY with EMS function has a rescue paramedic onboard FF2 boat to care for the patient in the transfer & tender to boat.

Typically jurisdiction issues between NYPD with its elite ESU (Emergency Services Unit w. officers trained as first responders) and FDNY with its ALS paramedics that surfaced from time-to-time, especially at MCI (mass casualty incidents) - Good Grief ! It's a single female patient with a possible major injury that is not considered life threatening as diagnosed by MD onboard, do the MediVac and let the GEM turn around to go back out to sea & resume her journey. Now, they want to use the smaller "Door" for NYPD and FDNY just want to get the patient onto the platform and to shore.

It's so much simplier when the US Coast Guard get called out - our city's tax dollars at  work, 2 uniformed services competing & trying to get onboard first. "They are still NOT on the same page" - I'm surprised NYC's OEM Headquarters has not jumped in to assume "Incident Command", completely un-necessary and over-dramatized with all those live radio calls back-n-forth, for those listening.

Please, I understand that you're worried about tax dollars, but at least for now, can just worry about this poor woman who may lose her sight... believe me, losing the sight of an eye is not a good thing.... and it's not easy to deal with for the rest of your life either... respect...please..
