Does Skype work on Oasis of the Seas?

My DH and I are planning a cruise for our 5th anniversary and our daughter is staying with the grandparents. We would like to talk/see her every night through the use of Skype. Does anyone know if Skype is accessible on Oasis? I tried searching and could not find an answer.

I tried both skype and FaceTime using my iPad Air, and neither worked. I was able to iMessage to get updates and that worked great. Hope this helps!!

Skype worked on the Allure of the Seas when I sailed with her last September. I don't know if anything has changed since then.

Technically yes but the connection is very slow, probably too slow for skype.

Out going would fail to connect, incoming did work last November on a Allure.

Hi,

 

My son recently worked on Oasis, and we spoke many times on SKYPE with no problem.

 

Occasionally the signal was lost but we just called again and connected.

I thought Oasis was set for the new O3b satellite connection but when I scroll to the bottom of this article, it says it will be available Aug 2014.

The O3b system has had some delays with getting satellites operational.

I used Skype and Viber in certain areas on the ship. It worked great in Central Park. iMessage worked fine anywhere on the ship.

Hello,

When we were on Oasis (this was in 2012), we used Google Talk (which has now been fully integrated with gmail) to call home. Call quality was pretty good and because we used the ships wifi from our room, Google thought we were calling from the US (any us-us calls are free). Therefore I'd recommend you use it from the ship and not in port, although Google's fees for calling via a port wifi are very reasonable
