Nextholiday? Posted April 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Hi Just booked two nighter. I think one of the night is classed as formal Do you find people wear tuxedo or is it ok for men to wear trousers, shirt etc If it is tuxedo and we don't want to, can we eat in the buffet in smart casual clothing please Thank you
Rare P&O SUE Posted April 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Hi, Some wear tuxs but my hubby wears a normal suit with a bow tie and he is not out of place at all. Also you can just wear casual and go to the buffet if you want.
Nextholiday? Posted April 29, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Hi If we decide to do the buffet will we be allowed to go in the shops or theatre etc please
Rare P&O SUE Posted April 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2014 I'm not 100% sure with the shops but I would think so and I know for certain that you can go in the theatre not in the dress code as we were dolled up and someone was sitting next to us in shorts! We were surprised that the theatre wasn't included in the dress code . Personally I loved sitting in the theatre watching most people coming in all dressed up! (get there a good 20 mins early to guarantee a seat!)
wilson2579 Posted April 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2014 On Ventura last year we decided to miss 1 of the 4 formal nights and we were turned away from several bars as we were not dressed appropriatly. It was the first time we hadn't dressed for formal night.
davecttr Posted April 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2014 For Azura the venues where formal dress is required on formal nights are the 3 main dining rooms, Oriental, Peninsular and Meridian, the Sindhu and Seventeen cover charge restaurants, The Planet bar and the Blue bar. Wearing evening casual clothes you can go everywhere else. Venetzia buffet, Verona trattoria, Glasshouse bar and restaurant, Brodies bar, Java bar, Malibar caberet and bar, Manhatten entertainment lounge and bar, Playhouse theatre, the Casino, plus of course the shops :D
Nextholiday? Posted April 29, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Thank you so much. At least I know if we decide not to do formal, we won't have to eat in the buffet then go straight to our room ;)

Nextholiday? Posted April 30, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I really do appreciate your help and patience So on a formal night, I can eat here smart casual and just pay for the items marked extra? Can I pre book this restaurant? In the buffet restaurant for dinner, do you have the same type of food as you would in main restaurants? Thank you again Dave I assume :)
simonpjd Posted April 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I did not own a dj for my first few cruises so just took one of my work suits and wore a bow tie. No problem anywhere. Now I have a dj I take it - I still hate having to dress up for the formal nights but the women generally love it and they are the bosses. I have to do what I am told. And I am told to dress up but also told I look very smart.
davecttr Posted April 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I really do appreciate your help and patience So on a formal night, I can eat here smart casual and just pay for the items marked extra? Yes Can I pre book this restaurant? No, just turn up and if no table is available they will give you a pager. It is a popular venue In the buffet restaurant for dinner, do you have the same type of food as you would in main restaurants? Basically yes, with a smaller selection. On some evenings the buffet is themed such as curry, eastern etc Thank you again Dave I assume :) happy to be of help :)

Thank you again Dave I assume :) The Verona is a first come first served, not bookable, but I think if you cannot get straight in they will put you on a wait list and give you a pager (I think) the buffet restaurant has themed food at nights e.g Italian, Indian etc. This is different to the the MDRs where you choose from a menu and are served. Rare P&O SUE Posted April 30, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 30, 2014 We used the Verona several times but found ourselves getting there about 6.20 to queue so we could get a window seat :D The only thing I paid for in there was the Fragole desert - and it was worth every penny :D

We did as suggested and went to Verona trattoria, only waited five minutes, had a wonderful meal, could not fault it. We got there at half eight and restaurant was only third full. Fab :D We had a window seat and the sun was just setting. Beautiful :)

alvin moondust Posted May 12, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 12, 2014 If you want to eat in Verona then get there early as there are a limited number of places. We tried to eat there for the first time last week and arrived at 8:15 only to be told it was full and all pagers had been handed out. We had not realised it was quite limited in numbers, luckily we had time to divert to the main dining room for 8:

annieuk Posted May 13, 2014 #23 Share Posted May 13, 2014 When we were on Azura in March we were told by the manager that they started taking people at 6.30 and filled 20 tables. The next people were given a pager - another 20 tables ( I say tables and not number of people as some were tables for two, others for four or six). After the 20 pagers were given out there was little chance of a table that evening. What you couldn't do was to go up at 6.30 and ask for a table for 8.30 - I know we tried that! It tends to be easier to get a table early on in the cruise before word gets around what a lovely evening can be had there. Later on we saw a queue stretching all the way past the lifts. People started queuing before 6pm in order to be sure of a table.
