Stratheden Posted May 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2014 We were wondering whether to buy an internet package on the ship or if there were internet cafes in the ports of the Greek Islands. Argostoli, Santorini, Rhodes, Kerkira, Katakolon, Nafpilion, Mykonos and Pireausin particular. Just want to catch up with family via email etc.
Rare John Bull Posted May 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) If you've got your own device such as I-pad or I-phone the majority of bars & cafes have free wifi, generally accessed by a password which the staff will give you. Although you'll see free-wifi signs, connectivity is very variable so before ordering its worth looking to see if others at the establishment are happily browsing etc There are also occasional wifi hotspots. Long time since we looked out for internet cafes, so can't advise you if you need access to a computer. sunsetbeachgal Posted May 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) We bought quite a few cappuccinos and light meals on our Med. cruise last year in order to get the password for internet (and to use the bathroom!). As said, it is free but most often it requires a password that the waiter or establishment will give you. And some signal strength is better than others! Elmartellama Posted May 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2014 It's one of the main disadvantages of travelling with a cruise. Thankfully, thanks to a new European directive Roaming (paying more for using telephone and internet services in other UE countries) will be vanished by the end of 2015. It will be very convenient for us european travellers (or other people using a european phonecard) Nowadays you need internet for anything in your mobile, and having to wait and pay to some hotspot is rather annoying. Holly2 Posted May 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2014 There was a lovely beach outside Katakolon that had free wifi. Crew members always know where to find it.

vacationlady Posted July 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2014 We had no problems finding free Wi-Fi at local café. You will have to purchase something to get the code. Look for places where you see others browsing the internet.
RJHNorthyorks Posted July 14, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 14, 2014 We use cafe's and bars and sometimes available in terminal buildings. If in doubt asking the crew usually works.
