Going no drink package - dangerous?

Recommended Posts

No matter how I add it still...

2 glasses of wine with my dinner

2/3. Sodas

2/3 bottles of water( in the past I have had no problem drinking ship water)

2/3 drinks by the pool

1/2 drinks at night in club /casino/bars

Still seems like a gd deal to me this is with tip also I don't think I'm getting away with something big, even if there is a day or 2 I don't hit these numbers it seem like it has to be close

I do not think it is dangerous at all. I think it is probably a better idea for you not to get the drink package. If you are drinking sodas you might consider the soda package just because one soda a day can add up.

I find I can't drink for 7 days straight on a cruise. I would hit the wall. Plus you will have your port days as well. You will come out way ahead not getting the package if that is all you think you will drink.

Debbie

i agree, they sell the package to make money , that is it. if it was profitable for the customer they wouldnt sell it long.

only $65 a day to drink. smh @ only , free water- kiwi flavored not bad too, unsweet tea and tea and coffee. ;) wine a little something snuck in and free champagne on a few nights.

The 'only' is relative to $65 for $100 value

Obviously relative to zero, for someone who is happy to enjoy the included choices, it is a lot per day.

To piggyback on this thread...

For the Royal Replenish package: does it include frozen non-alcoholic cocktails? It is a little unclear - it says "non-alcoholic cocktails" are included, but not sure if that means the frozen ones too.

Thanks!

Just got off the Navigator on Sunday and I purchased the $55 a day package. Think one of the lost facts here is the soda package by itself is $20. So literally your paying an additional $35 a day for the liquor.

That's important. Doesn't the fine print also note that everyone in the cabin needs to get the package?

That we currently only have the time off for one cruise a year led us 'all in' with a GS each time we go since cruise #1. We've learned to make the CL and a wine package count. However, since we're getting the Soda package anyway this is something to think about over the next <sigh :( > 8 freakin' months.

You no longer have to get a package for everyone :)

It is worth it for me for sure.

Here is why

1: Whenever I pass a bar, I get a bottle of water. I either drink it, or take it back to the room and save it for later. Comes in handy on excursions. 3 x daily = $10.50 day

2: I drink 1-2 soda's at breakfast, and 2-3 more during the day. But to keep things conservative I'll say 4 soda's a day = $8

3: It is nothing for me to drink 2-4 beers throughout the day, especially on sea days, but in the idea of staying conservative we will go with 3 x $5.75 = $17.25

4: I always try the "drink of the day" by the pool. $8 ??

5: Without question I stop to get a mixed drink on the way to dinner, usually a jack and coke. = $10

6: With the alcohol package, I will usually try whatever wine is paired with the entree I order. If I like it, I'll have another one. If I don't, I'll chug it or send it back, and order another one. Either way, I have two drinks with dinner = $20

7: By the time dinner is over we go to the evening show, or comedy center, or some other entertainment venue, and I'll have a drink. Red Bull and vodka please. $10

8: I've been known to wind down with a decaf Irish coffee too :)

BY my rough calculations, thats about $84 a day, give or take a couple bucks.

On port days, I might drink a little less. On Sea days, I may have even more out by the pool.

I hardly ever drink at home, so I like to enjoy myself on the cruise and the package allows me to try drinks that I probably wouldn't order if I knew I had to pay for them, even if I didn't like them.

All in all, it probably ends up in my favor at the end of the cruise, but I would rather know ahead of time what my bill will be.

Hope that helps break it down a little bit.

This is a nice breakdown. But please be reminded, the Drink of the Day will be covered on the package, but it does not include the various souvenior type glasses.

Your breakdown is pretty similar to my habits except for sea days, I enjoy a Bloody Mary at breakfast as well.

Not to highjack this thread but I have a question along the lines of the OP. I drink only water. Obviously I am not going to get a drink package. This is my husband's first RCI cruise (I was on one a million years ago) and we have cruised frequently on other lines in the past few years. This will be our first cruise where just one of age person in the cabin can get a drink package and the other is not required. So we are looking into it for him. Here's my question: is it ALL types of beers/liquors or is it cheap stuff like Budwieser, Miller Lite, ect? My husband is a beer snob and lovers microbrews, imports, ect. If the drink package only covers cheaper products and there is an additional charge for say, Stella Artois or Victory Brewing in Pennsylvania then it wouldn't be worth it, right? He also drinks Coca Cola products too, sometimes with rum, mostly without. Would he have a choice of rums?

Yes, frozen included.

Yes frozen drinks are correct. But... the premium frozen drinks are not. The bars (most all of them) have a specialty drink menu. These specialty drinks can be as high as $12 each. The premium pkg covers drinks up to $10. When ordering the specialty drinks, you will be charged the difference. Most of these specialty drinks in the menus are of the frozen concoctions.

Sorry to muddy the waters but I contacted RCI about non alcoholic frozen cocktails as I will 100% go for the royal replenish package if they were included - here is the response:

Me:

4. In the royal replenish package, does this include non-alcoholic frozen cocktails?

5. In the royal replenish package, what are the non-alcoholic cocktails?

RCI

4. Not frozen. Only regular non-alcoholic cocktails.

5. Fruit juice mixes with grenadine and mint. Any "virgin" cocktails.

Does anyone know if the various beverage/drink packages work while at Labadee and Coco Cay? I seem to remember using my cruise card for drinks while onshore those days...

Last question, has anyone here bought a package and used it to 'share' drinks with their cabin mate/significant other? I.E. - Order a second drink 5 minutes later and once I've walked away from bar or server leaves I 'gift' the drink to my wife. Did anyone run into any problems doing so?

Missbrightstar-That's what I was afraid of. The frozen drinks would be the draw for my son...not sure that it's worth it for us otherwise. He's not a soda drinker. Probably better to just let him get one a day and then just drink water or whatever (he's mostly a water drinker at home). I also may just wait til we're onboard and ask the powers that be. It sounds like there are discrepancies on the rules amongst different ships. We're going in June on Splendour...I'll report back!

First yes you can use your pkg. at Labadee and CoCo cay.

Second get ready to get flamed for asking about the sharing part.

Flame Away!!! I can handle it!

Thanks much for confirming the Labadee and Coco Cay part. As for the sharing I don't understand why people have to judge/critique. I'm merely looking to see if anyone has experience with trying it...

Don't think there was any judging or critiquing , just stated a simple fact that there are people on here that do Flame for certain things.

Nowhere did I say it was right or wrong, just have read many , many threads where it happens.

You are being honest to ask I'm sure there are some that do. Your business is your business
