Anybody taken the water taxi out From Belize City to Caye Caulker (or San Pedro)- how did that work?

So if I go I pack up my gear- head to the water taxi terminal to go out to caye caulker-

are there tour boat operators that will take us out to the reef from there or ???

Yes, there are snorkeling operators out of Caye Caulker. Carlos (next to Café Amore) and Juni (behind the police station or at Trinity pier) are two that usually do small 1/2 day tours. You'll need to google them or search for Caye Caulker listings. Ragmuffin does tours with larger groups. Costs are usually around $30-$40 US depending on the length. Not much difference between one vendor or the other. Mostly based on time out to the reefs.

Basically, you exit the tender terminal turn left and walk a block to the Belize Water Taxi station. Or 4 blocks further, past the swing bridge, to the Caye Caulker Water Taxi station. You can google for fares and times. Remember that all times are Belize time and ship time will probably be different, even if you leave from a Gulf port, as Belize does not observe daylight savings time.

This probably means you'll need to catch a 12:30 or 1:30 taxi back to Belize City. So your time may be limited. You might be better getting ahold of a snorkeling vendor that leaves directly from the tender pier. Look for Shark-Ray Alley snorkeling excursions.

Thanks!

Although we love snorkeling and think the Shark/Ray/Hol Chan option would provide us with better snorkeling- we have decided in the scope of time, ease of calculating/transportation and our children's ages- we will just hop on over to Goff's Caye.

We will bring our own gear, our towels and some water bottles.

We contact an operation to see about rates.

Thanks for the input- maybe some other time when our kiddos are older we can explore out further.

We did this one 3 years ago and would not do it again. The water was quite rough and we got really shaken and wet. We did not feel it was safe and were actually afraid to loose the ship on the way back as the motor stalled and they tried for about 15 minute to get it back running. It eventually did but that was not a funny experience. Next time we take the plane. Fast and safe.

Sorry you didn't have a good experience Priscilla. These are fully-enclosed ferries that hold 30 - 40 ppl I would guess, the ride there and back was fine. Loved exploring CC and most of all our time at the Lazy Lizard.

The "Priscilla" was a spell check, sorry.

And yes the flight is a good option too, unfortunately the times didn't work any better for us so we took the taxi.
