Cruising solo on Carnival?

I need/want/yearn for a vacation and have an amazing offer from Carnival that has an expiration date.

Since I am single with a bunch of busy friends (work and/or motherhood), I am considering going alone. Actually, I have decided to go alone.:D

Although I am friendly, I was wondering, how easy would it be to meet up with people on Carnival cruises? How did you other solo cruisers do it?

Are there itineraries or ships that make it easier? Am I just asking the wrong questions?

(In case it matters, I like the itineraries for the Caribbean cruises in late June/ early July. A piece of me is also considering Alaska.)

I just went on my first cruise this past April. I went with 2 couples but I was solo in my own balcony cabin. I had a wonderful time. I spent a lot of time by myself because the couples were off by themselves. I never, ever felt alone or scared. I went to the casino every night & meet some great people. The Carnival Breeze was a wonderful ship. Lots of dancing...just a fun crowd. I am not afraid to book another cruise by myself. Good Luck...Have fun...Life is short....

I am booked for my third Solo cruise on Carnival Splendor, 25 June 2014. I have enjoyed every single cruise and met some amazing people. Come join us on the Splendor for 8 days of fun. Bon Voyage!!!

Would love too but looking for "no single supplement fee" cruises. I can not afford paying full prices for cruises....I had a great great on my first Carnival cruise.....:D

I have sailed solo on Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, and Norwegian and have had no problem with meeting people or being alone on any of them. I did Alaska solo last year. Don't hesitate, do it. Lesa

I am also looking to go on a cruise. All my friends and family can't go due to work or other commitments. I am looking at a Caribbean itinerary and also don't want to pay more than double for a cruise. I have been searching and looking at the website thru Carnival, so want to do this. I know exactly what you are going through. Let me know if you find a great deal. I am not sure when the best time to book the cruise would be. Prices seem to go down and then back up. My time is flexible so I will keep looking.

I just did my 4th solo cruise a few weeks ago, 3rd on Carnival. You will have a great time and meeting people is very easy. People are so much friendlier while on vacation and eager to strike up conversations. Some good places to meet people are breakfast in the dinning room, excursions while in ports, activities aboard the ship like trivia contests, and in the casino if that is your thing. Also once you pick a cruise check the Meet n Greet boards here for your sailing. Frequently people from the board will set up a meeting location and time to get together. Great way to start the cruise with some friendly faces.

I have done all 4 cruises to the Western Caribbean so obviously I like those ports. 3 of the 4 out of Tampa, which has always been easy to fly into and board the ship.

If you haven't seen the list of Carnival sailings where the solo supplement is being waived or have any questions please let me know.

Mike

The best way of meeting people is finding your Cruise Critic roll call, or your roll call on a social media website that cannot be mentioned here.

  • 2 weeks later...

Carnival has great deals with many cruises that don't have a single supplement.

I'm booked Solo on two 8 days cruises B2B on Carnival Freedom: July 5th & 13th, with no single supplement. Category 1A, great deal.

It's easy to meet people, if you want to meet people. After many solo cruises, I've done it both ways: I've stayed to myself most of the time to relax and I've been outgoing meeting many people.

I find that traveling solo give me many more opportunities to meet other people. When I travel with friends, I tend to stick around only with my friends. If you go solo and wish to meet people, leave the shyness at home and simple greet people. Most people are much friendlier on vacation.

Hi, in 2010 I went solo on the Victory out of San Juan and had a wonderful time. I had many reservations about going but am so glad I did. If you eat in the dining room they sit you with other solo cruisers (at least they did then) and I met some great people from New Jersey (I am from NB, Canada). They actually did a cruise to Saint John a year later and I met them and we had a great day.

Anyway, lol, I am now booked on two cruises (great deal I just couldn't resist). I will be going on the Sunshine on November 8th and on the Liberty on the 15th. I hope you go because I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I would strongly suggest cruising in the weeks right before kids get out of school and the weeks right after kids go back to school. A lot less kids plus you get lower prices and more singles can afford to go. You can get a great price starting about August 17 through early September even for your own cabin

The no solo supplement list for Carnival was updated today and includes some sailings into September.

Where did you find the updated list? I went to Carnivals website and they still are listing only June 2014. Tried that link you posted and nothing:confused:

If you want to do Alaska and your dates are flexible hit one of the last sailings of the season. I did a solo on NCL last Sept and it was much cheaper than in the summer. Plus the weather was cooler, even though I live in TX I am not a big fan of the blast furnace heat.

Those ones from Galveston will be a tad on the warm side. Though gas money from Katy to the Island is a whole lot cheaper than a flight to someplace else i guess. :D

If the link does not work for you, go to GoCCL.com and click on "Single Occupancy Offer" under Featured Specials.

I just noticed that there is at least one listed into October.

I am sailing solo for the first time and just booked a cruise on Carnival Valor sailing out of San Juan July 13 with no single supplement - got an oceanview cabin midshipish for <$650. Try to book as one occupant to see what price comes up - I know Carnival has a couple... Good Luck.

So annoyed, I would have LOVED to go on the Splendor again, but I booked Breakaway so I didn't have to pay double occ. And now the itinerary I like is no single supplement. Bummer.

There is a Jmid July Western Carib, balcony cabin, under $800--no solo supplement on the Legend! Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize and Roatan. Great ports. Great ship. Wish I could go but just got a new job...

I meet people at the trivia games. Roll call is a good place to line up activities in port.

I am having a difficult time find the link for the low or no single supp.

Could you post that link as the new list comes out? You will be doing me (and I am sure many others) a great favor.

A link to it is on the goccl web site.
