beshears Posted May 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2014 If by chance, you want to be "old fashion" like us, and do the paper pictures, instead of the disk, it is well worth the money. I know the disk would be too. The reason I say this, when the photographers were out there, from the day we step on the ship, till Saturday, my friend and I were taking pictures. I know you will laugh, but we probably took at least 60 - 80 pictures, on the ship, off the ship. When the pictures are $23 a piece, it is well worth it. You don't have to take the pictures, but we took them all, and then went through them, and divided them between ourselves. I will say the people that work in the photo gallery area are very nice and HELPFUL. If you canot find your pictures, just ASK, and they will direct you to that area. If you want to see what pictures you have taken, they have machines that you can swipe your room card, and it will bring up all the pictures you have taken. loubetti Posted May 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2014 I would be nice and helpful too, if a single print was $23! You, know, it probably costs them less than $.50 to print it, even if it is an 8x10. Photo, along with casino is the biggest profit center on cruise ships, especially now that we are in the digital age with no film or film processing, and software that can knock out prints by the boat load- no pun intended!:D To each his own. Glad you are happy with your purchase.

If you really want to buy the photo's, I would suggest your still better off buying them on a disk instead of their paper copies. You can upload them to the local photo processor of your choice when you get home, purchasing the disk does give you the digital rights to reproduce them. You will pay pennies on the dollar doing it at home and can have as many prints as you like. The quality of the print will be every bit as good as the one on the ship if not better. Best of all the disk is easier to transport home safely than all of the prints.

On Mondays, Walgreens (at least at my local one) does very nice 8x10s for $.99 each and on Wednesdays they do 5x7s for $.99 each. They do good work too, high quality printers. They still make money on them. I know, I worked in their photo department for a few months, and I've been a pro photographer for 40 years. Doing them at home will cost not much more, ya' just need the proper printer and paper to pull it off. I have a $138 Epson printer that does a great job. Of course, the cost of the CD is another story, but if you have a "boat" load of pictures on it, who cares!
daljcl Posted May 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2014 Last RCCL cruise in 2011, I bought the photo package for my mom who was with us and loves the photos of the family and especially the three kids.....DD18 and DD15 had a blast doing a photo shoot each night....DS15 not so much but we did see photos of him on the disk we did not know had been taken. Our disk had over 350 pictures from the 9 day cruise.....well worth the money spent as worked out to less than a $1.00 a picture and with the special they had at the time, we go 20 printed pictures as well:) Bought it again for our 6/27 Granduer cruise.....gave it to her as a Mother's Day Gift. timfan27 Posted May 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2014 I was told that the Grandeur doesn't do the pictures on a disk. The package for pictures is the actual print pictures. Is this information incorrect?
bigque Posted May 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2014 60 pictures @ $23 each.....$1,380. Are you sure you want to buy all of them???

Is this information incorrect? If the photographers are like the ones I've encountered in the past in these settings it doesn't matter, the pictures aren't worth having. However I don't know, I'd be pretty surprised though if they aren't offering the option of a disk.
judatt Posted May 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 21, 2014 I don't have any experience with RCCL. However, on Celebrity which is a sister line of RCCL, they have a package where you can buy all the photos taken throughout the cruise. We have done this two times. One a 7 night cruise and I believe it was $199 when we purchased it on the ship. We did about 80 photos if I remember correctly. On the second one, we heard that you could purchase the package in advance and it was less expensive. We bought the package for $229 for a 12 night Med Cruise and actually had over 200 photos. Would we have bought 200 photos at $23 each? Absolutely not. But we probably would have bought 10 or so over the 12 nights and that works out to about the same price so we got all the others for free. My wife made them into a nice scrapbook. Just a thought. Ocean View Posted May 21, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 21, 2014 I'm new to the photo package. What is the cheapest disk package they have. Do you get any diamond discount? Thanks for info :) I sail in 10 days on the allure can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare Lionesss Posted May 21, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2014 On our last sailing of the Allure, I must say some but not all of the "posed" pictures were just OK. Others were very nice, I guess it is who the photographer was. Now, the action and on land scenes, on Labadee, the jet ski, well they were awesome!! Must of lucked out and had a good photographer. With our C & A coupon, we bought 6. Used all the coupons in three books. We were happy with what we got. Sea Ya
