I got the upgrade fairy call from carnival

So I'm on the Freedom 5 day in a balcony, the upgrade was for an Ocean Suite at $520  more. That's over $100 more a day. Didn't seem like an amazing deal to me., so I didn't take it. Maybe if it was a better price, but I thought that was quite high. Honestly, it was my first call like that, so maybe it was a great deal, I'm not sure? What do you'll think?

Bottom line- what works for you- sometimes if you call Carnival directly and have sailed multiple times before, they might give you a discount if you request it and if the ship isn't full. If you are two people, you have to decide if more space is truly worth $50 pp per day- for 5 days-

Enjoy your cruise.

Only you can determine if an upsell is worth the $$$$. Congrats on the call. Our upcoming Glory cruise is #19 with CCL, and we have NEVER received an upgrade and/or upsell call.:( It would be nice to have an opportunity to accept or decline.

That seems like a lot to me too. I don't think I would have taken it. That's enough to buy a lot of DODs!

It's always nice to get the call though! Maybe next time they will offer you a better deal.

I just got the call a few minutes ago for the Splendor sailing on 5/28. I'm booked in a balcony (picked my own cabin) and got the Casino rate...I'm happy.

The upgrade price to an Ocean Suite was too much for me to justify...it will more than pay my bar bill and then some...and I don't need the extra room since I'm traveling solo...

You can just go online, see what's available, and upgrade yourself.

Not completely true. I went from a 4B to a 9A for $200 total on an 8 day Miracle Southern Caribbean cruise. I know for a fact that my total cost was less than what the 7A's were going for at the time of the upsell call.

There are deals and then there are DEALS. You can't book DEALS on your own.

My hubby called before we left and received an upgrade (the day before sailing)Our girls were in the cabin (inside across from us) and they gave them an ov in the aft area for the same price. They loved it, had great time. Just graduated high school and thought they were special...lol:o

Doesn't always work. Besides, all vacant cabins are not listed on the web sites. In addition, the $$$ paid for most upsells is less than posted fares (this is consistently posted).

IF you get an upgrade call, do you have to tell them immediately then and there if you'll take it? Or can you think it over before deciding?

I would say yes you have to decide right then. There was another thread from a person who got called with an upgrade/upsell call and while she was thinking about it (on the phone with the agent) some other agent sold the cabin and it was now unavailable.

I saw that post, oh my... is it getting heated over on that thread.

Thanks for the input everyone, I thought it wasn't the deal for us, but then you start to second guess once you say no. I really think I've heard of much better deals than that. Like bugeater2 said... there are deals and then there are DEALS!!!:D

I would decide right there and then. I received an upsell call for our cruise on the destiny a few years ago. balcony on lido and go to an oceanview suite 5 day cruise for $200. I originally told them I wasn't interested, they told me if I change my mind I can call back, but not guaranteed to still be available. about 10 minutes later I called back, and asked if that offer was still available to me. My pvp had to transfer me to another dept. that deals with upgrades/upsells. It was, I took it. how could I not!?

With 3 of us in a cabin we got a call from the upgrade fairy 2 years ago on the 7-night Liberty. The offer was to go from a 4H (interior on Panorama) to an 8A (balcony on Veranda) for a mere $200. It was much less than if I wanted to upgrade myself. I jumped on the deal, had a few cabins to choose from (I asked) :p
