Taxes, Fees and Port Expenses

Recommended Posts

If you book through a TA, should the taxes fees and port expenses be any different to the amounts quoted on the RCCL website?

The item "Gov't Fees and Taxes" itself is the same for TA and Royal. However, TA's also separately break out "Port Fees (aka NonCommisionableFares)" and sometimes lump these with the Govt Fees and Taxes. ken

Not in the US, but I think some of the conditions are country specific.

We just got off enchantment and there were 20 if us booked through a local TA. The taxes must have been less when we got on bc we had a credit on our cabin account for $4.88 per person.

Was the TOTAL different though? If you take the total RCI price (fare less any discounts plus taxes & port fees) and the total of the TA price is there a difference?

The only difference should be any perks your TA may provide. As Ken076 above said, TA's break out the charges differently but the total should be the same. You can't go by the description for each line item.

I found this out because my TA was offering 5% off but that wasn't what I received based on the cruise line's website fare. I learned they carve out the non-commissionable piece of the fare before they compute the 5%.

As things worked out when I booked yesterday, the TA price was cheaper by about €200.00.

Today, following a price drop, the TA price is around €70 more expensive.

I understand that this sort of crap happens, and was just wondering if maybe the TA was using the wrong taxes amount. If they had used the same taxes amount as RCCL then the costs would have been similar.

Its no biggie either way
